Suitably mood postpunk and ambience – this was a big listen for me in my last year of high school
Grandmaster Flowers - Brooklyn Park Jam 1979
— Mixcloud —
Steve Lee’s tribute to Gary Haisman is a top, top mix
How do you embedd a souncloud mix?
I just copied and pasted the url. It worked just fine.
Not particularly obscure but DJ Spinbad’s ‘Rock The Casbah’ is fantastic if you love 80s pop music & cutting & scratching, which I do, really skillfully & cleverly constructed.
The mix I’ve probably listened to the most along with Daft Punk’s 1997 Essential Mix.
Sadly Spinbad died prematurely recently.
R.I.P.
OK, here it goes again
I was going to post this. Hardly any Flowers sets floating around the interwebs and not a single Maboya set to be found.
Of similar Quality and significance, but coming out of the galaxy of Queens I definitely play this weekly.

Woah, thanks. A new one on me.
When you listen to Nu Sounds or Flowers or even Hollywood it definitely upends the narrative of who did what with a record where and when. Have you ever heard the Xenon tape that’s floating around from 78? Same deal. Totally mind blowing.https://www.mixcloud.com/marcomagrini/xenon-nyc-live-1978-dj-tony-smith-richie-rivera-rare-tape-side-a/
I haven’t. Some great listening for the weekend, thanks.
been coming back to this one a lot the past year:
This one is so special I vaulted it on Dropbox years ago (and just put it on SoundCloud now), knowing I would come back to it. Shame is, I don’t remember who it is, other than I know he’s Dutch.
It’s unbelievably tight, funky and uplifting at the same time. And it runs the gamut - disco, new wave, freestyle, old school hip hop, electro

If you know who it is, please let me know so I can update the SoundCloud link.
Favourite for me is the Matthew Burgess mix from Emotional Pop , lovely pace and just great songs . Mixcloud
Beat me to it. Big favourite for me as well
Proper sleaze/morning music as I recall?
Maybe a bit mainstream for this forum(?) but I’ve been listening to this Sasha mix regularly for about 20 years (think it’s because it’s the slower, deeper, 1st cd).
I often go this frankie knuckles for for an uplifting mix - https://soundcloud.app.goo.gl/afMFnvmDrsVz7ytEA
And for the chilled dnb vibes the tunes on this Fabio mix are killer - https://soundcloud.app.goo.gl/QDZhvJC9RjG4vKfWA
I think that’s the best guest mix we’ve had on Emotional Pop
Wow, from the DJhistory days! I used to listen to this all the time, thanks for bringing it back to me.
