Enjoying this. Picked it up in a wonderful bookstore tucked away on Venice Beach boulevard. Follows a small time African-American Hood through Harlem during the tumultous early 70s when New York was tearing itself apart. The prose zips along, the dialogue sharp with wit and criminal slang of the time. Really puts you in the zone

Big Colson Whitehead fan. Haven’t read Crook Manifesto yet but read the first book in the trilogy, Harlem Shuffle, a great read. Underground Railroad and the Nickel Boys are also excellent, though tougher reads as they are a quite unflinching look at slavery and racism in good old America.

Good to hear, I bought that the other day and it’s next in the queue to read.

Did this in a few days as an audio book, really enjoyed it as I did his previous and his autobiography. love his at times meandering style and the way he provides detail on something that is of no real consequence but is very bob. Also having him narrate the audio book really added to the experience. Brilliant

Not reading yet but have pulled the trigger

Long read about Israel/Gaza:

Side note: The series Couples Therapy on iPlayer is also really good. The therapist Orna is so good at reading people and some of the coupes are mad!

He’s a genius imo. I know loads of the Orb stuff was done by engineers etc but he digs out the samples and has a brilliant ear. I’ve got a few of the records in this interview. Sort of regret getting rid of lots of sound effect and spoken word records but just never listened to them. If you’re not careful you end up with lock ups you dare not enter and piles of records in the basement of shops!
