Berlin crew - I’m putting in a long shift at Paloma Bar at the end of November.
watching trees tickets have just gone live, nice little gang of us going from brighton as usual
Off to catch up with Darcus tonight. He and my wife worked together at Big Life when he was literally the tea boy. Mad to think he rose to become CEO of Island Records.
And OBE I believe.
I met him when he was a&r scouting, so mid 90s I guess. I remember being struck by his energy and out & out enthusiasm at the time. Definitely one of the good guys.
Was a fascinating and inspring evening! He’s such a lovely bloke and yes, in an industry full of snakes, definitely one of the good’uns!
Me! (hopefully)
Seeing Curses on Monday, 5 years on from that epic night at Convenanza
Thought Lowlife was good last night. Didn’t stay that late as had to get up for football today (ouch) but both rooms were banging and the vibe was great all round. Sarah Tonin and then Frank in the small room were excellent.
Did you go? What did you think? We left early, like 1am (not my choice)
Went to see this lady last night. The music and her voice has been living in me all day and gives me Spring vibes on this Monday in early November
:
Wow, daughter of Jacques & Paula. That is some lineage. Check out their Casa album (& others) with Ryuichi Sakamoto.
cheers, will do!
her latest album was also co-written with Tom Veloso, son of… talking about lineage ![]()
bagged a ticket to see awesome flamenco guitarist Melón Jiménez and singer Lara Wong at an intimate gig here next week. You might be familiar with his work on the Be.Lanuit album last year.
90 pp capacity ![]()
A quick comment on the Curses gig on Monday. It was disappointing in truth. I remembered them being a lot darker and weirder at Convenanza in 2019 but this seemed more derivative, with shameless nods to joy division/N.O, d mode, even billy idol! I love the venue Sala Upload though and crowd were out in force, despite the torrential conditions earlier in the day
