What don't you get

I used to take my land line out with me.

This one will no doubt ruffle the feathers of the disco ducks, but the constant worship of the Loft, Paradise Garage, Mancuso, alla that NYC scene bores me senseless in 2021. Yes, I get it, yes I’ve read the books and understand the legacy, but if I have to read another boring story involving Larry Levan’s rotary mixer and the Richard Long sound system…

Oh man, there’s quite a few sacred cows I’d love to bring to the slaughter, but I don’t have the balls to mention them on a foum like this one!

Do it, the abbatoir is open, bring in the cows.

Go for it, you only live once

I don’t get hip hop for example. De La Soul is as hardcore as I can get with it. Pretty big moo cow that one.

It’s ok but hard to navigate. I was asked if I could do a chart from there the other day and took ages to find just seven tracks. The plus from that was I got to hear some stuff from producers I have not heard of before. Some really good and some erm.

As a side note the phone comments in general are very annoying I agree. It’s people worrying too much about what others are doing. Who cares!? When I go out with my wife we are having a good time together so I wouldn’t even notice if someone has their phone out. If that’s what a night out entails for someone else so be it. The clubs now trying to be all cool with their no camera policy are making me squirm a little zzzzzzz.

From the recordings I’ve heard, I don’t hear much evidence of the amazing mixing skills we’re assured were happening.
On the other hand, those Baldelli '78 and '79 nye recordings - incredible!

This one will probably result in me being banned lol but i never got Luke Una, he used to be on local radio in Manchester about 20 years ago & i just found him to be a bit of an annoying knowitall, his column in JS annoyed me as well lol.
Not listened to him since so don’t know if he’s still the same

He does waffle on a bit lol. Listened to some of his worldwide shows earlier in the year but haven’t been back for awhile.

I really like his music, but I often wish that he would shut up a bit.

Shut the fuck up and play the records. Weatherall never twatted on like a pranny.

Follow him on Instagram, all he does is prattle on in some ridiculous made up fucking language about whatever mind toss he has today. Nobber.

I think you’ve got to browse it in a totally different way to other online operations. On the rare occasions I’ve used it, I move between people’s collections more than searching for stuff.

Yeah, Browse people’s collections, follow labels, check the recommended releases below ones you like, read the articles and lists of labels and styles you like. I also search for genres and then put them in order of new releases sometimes.

The era i was finding the most interesting music on Bandcamp was when i was systematically checking the emails from labels/artists i was following once a week for a few hours, but it was quite tedious work.

Especially when you remember that this process used to be done in a shop, with a person recommending you records and a buzz of other people and music around you… You can’t live in the past though.
