What don't you get

Still trying to get my head around FK playing a dubstep set :joy::joy::joy:

I mean he was playing the more spacious Mala/Martyn type stuff, not Skrillex and Rusko or whatever… I can see how it fits with his vibe for that night personally.

There’s a lot of good music from that scene, I’m picturing (wrongly) the worst.

I left midway through his set at Festival number 6 when he started playing dubstep. Itwas bitterly disappointing.

He was playing DnB at Electric Elephant 11 years back. I didn’t get it at all.

He took the roof off the tent at Big Chill… 45 minutes of layered rhythms then drops Crazy In Love. Same as the 6 hours at Southport around 2000.
Probably avoiding dubstep on both occasions helped.

He totally changed my view of DJ’ing with two nights he did at Plastic People that were the genesis of Deep Space. The breadth of music was amazing.

Saying that, I feel that going digital can sometimes just allow people too much choice.

Treading carefully here as he’s quite likely to show up and have a hissy fit, but I’ve definitely heard him make some risky programming choices that didn’t quite pay off. But hey, at least he’s still engaged by new sounds and not playing it totally safe.

The irony of me criticising FK on the same day that I posted about DJing to a dog and a breastfeeding lady is not lost on me btw!!

I personally love FK and everything he’s done. His dubstep period was next level

Did you mis-tag a post on World of Echoes?

I remember it. Not great.
And as per @Piers suggestion the view on the night was that no one should be let loose with a laptop of 10,000 digital tunes because that’s what you end up with. 50 amazing dnb records in a bag would probably have created an adventurous and epic set.

Rhythm and Sound- Lightning Storm?

He’s played a few sets in last years and there is even quite a lot of Jungle on them, surprisisng.

I don’t know if he was into at the time but often if you are playing sets with old tracks from whatever scene and you weren’t there you tend to pick the obvious (though often very good) tracks. It’s ok but it ain’t Randall et al.

This kind of crime against music. Came across this page when searching Bandcamp. It’s like the logical end point of the whole edits scene. Good music warped in Ableton, with an added horrendous beat, and sold for 2 Euro a pop.
