Just back from a week in Tenerife at a nice hotel where this shite was oozing out all day every day on the sun deck. Most of it could be made by AI and possibly is.
1990 started when the December TOTP had Stone Roses & Mondays both on ‘live’
As an added bonus Warp / Bleep peaked & Weatherall doing some brilliant stuff
Oh & Boys Own released a Soul II Soul breakbeat cover of Crowded House!
Never seen that before, bloody brilliant!
I was there, it was a 2 day festival in Heaton Park, summer of '91, organised by Factory in honour of Martin Hannett who’d died a few months earlier.
I’d just left school and jibbed in with my mates thanks to a gap in the fence my fave Uncle, Mark was ‘overseeing’ .
The Mondays were fantastic, the crowd was rammed, roiling and heaving, I was right in the middle of it, trying to stay upright at times as it swayed and moved, singing away in my Shamen T shirt,
Mark passed away recently, cancer. R.I.P.
I’m always reluctant to point out examples of these kind of tunes, as I suspect several involved in their creation are likely lurking or possible members of this forum! Just because I don’t like it is no reason to offend somebody’s passion/creativity (seriously though, you can stop making them now haha).
I saw the Mondays in 1989 on the saturday after that famous TOTP. At the Town and Country Club in London. For a 16 year old from Essex it was completely mind blowing. I had a 11am kick off on the Sunday which, unsurprisingly I didn’t make.
Early Mondays, especially 89-90 looked great to go with it.
The Roses of that era too.
A far cry from the Adidas Spezial shite they are associated with now.
Awful. Fuckers head to toe in that crap.

I saw them following Feb (poss March) at GMEX… distinctly remember 808 State too they were brilliant.
That was the first ever concert I ever went to.
Wembley Arena same tour for me, 15 years old armed with 10 Silk Cut, Gary Clail supporting.
Was at that one. Wicked. Possibly my first gig too!
But I look relatively cool in the sweatshirt I bought here in the States. Will remind myself not to pack it when I come over in October.
Ha ha ha! ![]()

I was at that. It was great fun.
I saw the Mondays twice in '89, one at Warrington Parr Hall and once at Liverpool Uni. They were brilliantly shambolic back then, opened up with Rave On. Superb.
I was there too!
I also went in the November of 1990 when they were on the ‘Pills and Thrills’ tour. Donovan supporting. Was a bit of a let down I seem to recall. I’m sure the Mondays only played for just over an hour and then got off.
Big Mondays fan. I love all of their Factory output but I love this tune the most.
But yeah, they’ve been phoning it in for years
