So, the new IOS 18.4 rollout contains a new feature known as the Ambient Widget - essentially mood-based playlists that you can play with a single tap on your home screen. From now on, you don’t have to open the app, search for the required playlist, and go through the three-step journey through apple Music’s menus. The widgets cover four broad mood categories: Chill, Productivity, Sleep, and Wellbeing.

Apple includes built-in playlist presets for each mood. Sleep, for instance, offers options like Sleep Sound, Bedtime Beats, Sound Bath, and Plano Sleep. However, if the curated options (yuck) aren’t your thing, you can set your own custom playlists by long-pressing the widget and tapping “Edit Widget.” And before you even ask, the Ambient Music widget only works with Apple Music; it won’t benefit Spotify users.

I tried to find out if this new feature would be pushing music generated by AI “artists” - you can imagine Ambient being the perfect playground for a model of music that Apple don’t have to pay any licensing to - but didn’t come up with a definitive answer.

We shall have to wait and see if this is an altruistic tool and of any benefit to those of us who collect and curate music regularly. I’m all for creating calm through music. I’ll investigate further and report back - watch this space!

Am I missing something?!

Happy Mondays are touring Pills Thrills and Bellyaches and advertising it as the 35th anniversary.

I’ve been commenting repeatedly (because I’m supremely petty :joy:) saying it’s 36 years, seeing as it was released on 5th November 1990.

I’ve got someone now arguing with me it ‘didn’t get released properly until 1991’??

I know they did a shit ton of gear but surely they must be able to remember when it came out?! :joy:

Was defo ‘90. They seemed to be touring constantly that year. On-U sound system supporting them at wembley arena was a highlight. Anyways, the album popped out that year. Busy folk.

Yeah was definitely '90. This smacks of marketing BS, arrogantly assuming no one would remember the actual release year

Had the misfortune of catching them last summer at a family festival thing. It was awful, Shaun just rambling and talking through the songs in a really ramshackle way

I loved them at the time, but definitely should have called it a day a long time ago.

They’ve sold out 2 nights at the Barrowlands in April with a third date added. Seems mental but fair play to them.

I saw them in Glasgow in 90 too. In a big venue opposite Govan/Kinning Park. Don’t remember the name. To be fair they were always ramshackle funk merchants.

Saw them twice in 1990, both at the GMEX, April and November, 808 State supporting at the former, Donovan at the latter, also saw them in the summer of '91 at the Cities In The Park festival in Heaton Park which was fantastic. I loved Ryder when I was younger but I’ve really gone off him these last few years, seems a nasty, bitter man these days, he’s driven everyone bar Bez out of the band

I saw them about 10 years ago in Sydney. Got free tickets and access to some shrooms so thought why not. I knew it would be awful and it was, but it was fun/funny. No way I’d go see them now, especially without Rowetta, as she did a lot of the heavy lifting vocally.

They’ve done her a real dirty by all accounts…

I really wish I took a picture of the best full kit wanker I seen a few years ago. Full Arsenal away strip, socks up to the knees on whilst fishing off a pier in the West of Scotland.

Didn’t know ‘Full Pro Kit Wanker’ was a thing, there will be tonnes down here this week, if it’s raining they will all be in Trago with their Villa kits on.
