Someone asked me during COVID (early days of lockdown) if I’d shipped yet (all caps) 12 hours after ordering. I’ll just block people on discogs now tbh.
Used to sell alot more on the site and it’s been predominantly pleasant. Must have been using it for over 20 years now… cripes
Is it just me or is literally everything overinflated on there now though? The new fees are a killer but my experience is that Im selling way less and keep similar stock levels… Is that fairly universal? I guess my own prices have probably creeped up, just by looking at other peoples.
In the last two weeks-
“Hi, can you knock a bit off as i’m .63p short in my Paypal” (my £5 record is half the price of the next one already). Click on ‘buyers’ page and he’s got 1500 items listed and the first one is £400 Did’nt respond to that.
Put a joblot 4-500 tunes on Gumtree for cheap. Got a message from someone i’ve met once “swap this for your gumtree vinyl?” for a Dubstep record that may be worth £200. Nope, i want the money, not another record!
The bundle went to a friend of a friend who’d just bought (new) 1210’s for his boys aged 15+17 so they had an instant stack to play with and explore which is cool.
I’ve experienced quite a noticeable slow down on both Discogs and eBay since autumn. The lower priced stuff just isn’t selling as quickly. Agree generally prices on Discogs are often totally unrealistic.
Seems that many more people are pricing sky high and hoping to get someone desperate for the record to come along and pay a silly price these days , its becoming rare to see someone pricing something to sell these days.
Agreed. I haven’t bought anything off it in months now. Not for lack of things to buy (here in Australia that’s sometimes a factor); more because how expensive things are.
I’ve found wandering into my local shops who don’t list on Discogs yields much better results, and is a much more enjoyable experience generally.
Sweden has been at the forefront of countries moving towards a cashless society, with the New York Times reporting in 2018 that about 4,000 Swedes had implanted microchips in their hands to pay for travel or food, or enter keyless offices.
There are a lot of chancers on there. This may be a little tin foil hat but my guess is that some ask for photos so they can list fraudulent entries on their marketplace and this is their way of getting photos so when the other buyer asks they have it.
I was in DC all week on a work trip and met up with a childhood friend who works in cybersecurity for the DOD…he said the memos they see coming through…it’s worse than you would imagine. Total shitshow.
“can you send it to this address”. because they are running a fulfilment store and dont have the records they are pretending to sell. I’ve had that a couple of times
i’ve had that a few times, and while i don’t really mind, i put quick handwritten notes that say things like “thanks for buying from deepconcentration, check out my discogs if you want to buy more of these types of records!”.
no harm if it’s not a fulfillment store, and a clear hint to the receiver if it is.
I work closely with the department of education and normally what takes 45 days to complete could take up to 145 days. It’s deeply inefficient and those still working are grossly overworked.
