This record made me realize it’s funny how close the line between later career Brian Wilson and Daniel Johnston really is. When I listen to Johnston’s stuff I hear a lot of Brian Wilson in the melodies and the ā€œinnocenceā€ behind a lot of the lyrics. I think even late career Wilson just was that little bit more together than Daniel was, and had the benefit (for a while, at least, until it became a burden) of a group of collaborators, but albums like this make me wonder what Johnston could have achieved if he had a bit more ā€œstructureā€ behind him than what is on those basement tapes.

Just a random observation…

One for the hip hop heads and diggers, raw footage of an interview with the late producer and digger extraordinaire, Mark B, featuring many gratuitous close ups of stiff twelve inches and stories of digging around the world.

Revisiting Radiohead this evening. All these years later, still in total awe

They were a band that never really excited me on record, but live they were a massive experience.

Hmm dunno, used to play them to death in car. I go down occasional J Greenwood rabbit holes. His appetite for new sound is relentless. But yeah the gigs are where it’s at. Saw them here in 2016, which was unbelievable. People crying all around me. Considering heading to Valencia to see The Smile in August.

…wank…

Maz is a good dude. Calls himself a videographer there which is quite humble as he owns one of the largest agencies on the planet. Goes to almost every record show and is open to loads of different types of music. Very easy to talk to and one of those people who takes a genuine interest in those people around him.

One of his children went to the school I worked at many a moon ago and he’d come up for parent days and the like with his giant blue sunglasses on and his wife and minder wouldn’t let anyone near him. He didn’t always seem there but he loved our location in the mountains. We had these practice huts all over campus and we’d hear stories from the kids that they’d be playing and he’d walking in and ask to play with them. They had no idea who he was but would tell us about the tips he’d give them and the music professors would always feel a bit out out as what he’d do in 5 minutes would surpass what they’d achieve in a year. Never wanted to do masterclasses just want to be. There’s obviously a lot going on but I think I in his element he’s a kind person who is generous with his knowledge.

Really miss Woody’s wine reviews. They used to be semi regular on the Red Laser blog

This is a classic Woody moment as well if you’ve never seen it
