That first Doves album is brilliant. And yeah that track particularly good.
One of my fave albums ever, they never bettered it.
100%. I remember hearing There goes the fear for the first time and thought 'Oh no, itâs done⌠"![]()

Some really good stuff in that, but also some not so much. Donât want to get too political on this haven of an online space, but there are certain narratives from both sides in this that are either just plain wrong, or are propaganda and/or problematic in the current era of Star Wars morality.
- in any of these debates it seems you need to have. a disclaimer that being critical one one side doesnât make you an antisemite or a supporter of genocide/ethnic cleansing *
I have been brought up in the pro Palestinian cause, through my mum, who has worked with the likes of Amnesty to advocate for Palestinians, write to prisoners and give legal advice etc.
What is happening in the West Bank, backed by Netanyahu and his scum, is horrendous and needs much stronger condemnation/action from the West. Gaza is more complicated. The war needs to stop now because the amount of suffering is shocking. It is only still going on because it benefits Netanyahu and his openly racists friends keeping him in power. Also, Hamas are scum who have little interest in those they proclaim to protect - billions have been poured into Gaza over the years, making senior Hamas leaders extremely rich (and donât live in Gaza) with huge investments in property in places like Turkey for example. Billions spent on a tunnel system beneath the strip that is not for use for your ordinary Palestinian (the now dead Ismail Haniyeh said clearly in an interview on Al Jazeera that the Palestinians were happy to be martyred and Oct 7th was only the start). Completely opposite of anything said to Western audiences.
I have also found it depressing in how much support/look the other way/excuse there is for the likes of Hamas and Hezbollah. The Kneecap farce being a perfect example. They should not have been charged, or cancelled, but called out for their stupidity and their own prejudice - calling out (rightly) the bombing of innocent Palestinians whilst waving Hezbollah flags/reading hezbollah literature is a illogical symptom of many in the current pro Palestinian movement. Hezbollah literally barrel bombed innocent Syrians and reduced Syrian towns and cities to rubble - the wrong type of victims? Too complicated to fit it into a childish narrative of goodies and baddies?
Sudan? Barely mentioned on the news or from any of these activists.
Israel exists and isnât going away. Palestinians exist and arenât going away. Anyone from either side advocating for a one state solution are a big part of the problem.
More actual history and understanding and less propaganda is required.
This is ace.
Labi is ace.
The BBC Imagine doc on him is a must if youâve not seen it
Was literally just about to post the lighthouse one! Watched it earlier. Found it fascinating. Was thinking about how they wouldâve coped mentally.
Enjoyed that, the guyâs living the good life.
Always loved this track, discovered a new version of this tonight.
Was obsessed about finding a copy of this LP for years, with no joy. I had a ÂŁ50 limit on any record.
Sublime.
Hell yeah
This is excellent. There is very little to the story but youâre hooked on every word.
There are some songs that will always floor me, and this version of this classic song covered by the Pogues is one of them.
Not seen this before. Brilliant
