John Gray is, imo, the best living philosopher we have right now. I still vividly remember reading Straw Dogs nearly 20 years ago. An utterly exhilarating experience for a book of nonfiction, that I read in one day - and started reading for a second time the next day.

Thanks for that. Really interesting. Clearly recorded before Trump won the election and although he doubted that there would be a landslide he absolutely nailed his prediction regarding the situation in Ukraine.
One other thing that rang true to me was his phrase “resigned hedonism”.

Here’s a link to the party in 1986 that they mention. A guy called Gerald dancing in it too.

I just read there that the dj here, Mastermind Herbie, mixed the Electro compilations on Street Sounds.

Such a great track, there’s an acapella on the quite expensive 12" as well, it’s not a real typeface, apparently they just made it up for the song…

Forum member @Donald.Dust played it when he played for me last year in one of favourite mixes i’ve recorded from Palms.

The first proper dance club I ever went to featured a dance display by Foot Patrol doing a routine to Movin’ ‘88 by Brass Construction.

This clip is fantastic.

The interview with Aniff Akinola that Andrew posted is brilliant - the love for the music and social context of it all really comes out. Great stuff.

Herbie was an amazing DJ, as were most of Mastermind. Notting hill carnival legends.

That’s cool that he/they were doing the Carnival and the Manchester parties like the one on YouTube. Maybe when there’s the Manchester v London debate on who was listening to House music first, they’re the guys that helps resolve the argument - he/they was playing it in both places.
