Reformongers see that type of thing and are like 'well I wouldn’t know either, they’re normal people like me, and it all probably needs to be changed anyway if it’s not ‘common sense’.

Trump constantly pushes the Overton window, then dials back and people think ‘that’s not so bad’. Politics is now Football tribalism. Whose badge have you pinned to your shirt? My team is winning, doesn’t matter if they’re dodgy, doesn’t matter about ‘policies’, just that we’re winning.

Farage may not get into power next time, but the time after that? I’m fing terrified particularly about their plan to nix indefinite leave to remain.

Watched this the other night after the trailer came up on my YT feed, binged all 4 episodes in one night.
Documentary on Dean Potter, rock climber, BASE jumper, high liner walker, rebel and searcher amongst other things, i’m not particularly spiritual but the ending really got me.

Cape Fear on Apple TV. Luridly upping the ante on the Scorsese film, which is fine with me. Only two episodes up so far but enjoyed them immensely.

Farage (like Trump et al) are only getting traction due to the complete failure of the centre, left and right, to acknowledge reality. The lack of political imagination (and self awareness) is frustratingly depressing. Anyone thinking of voting for Reform, must be just racist - there’s no other reason. Why won’t they vote for the status quo? If Reform actually won a GE, they would be quickly found out to be the charlatans they are. Farage is a cunt. That’s a fact. The more important question, imo anyway, is why there’s enough people potentially willing to vote for them that they may get in power. They are not all racists or xenophobes. I see nothing to give me hope unfortunately.

We loved Dark Winds and have just motored thru the recent (4th) season.
I particularly like how it doesn’t ram its 70s-ness down your throat. There’s not many cultural references in the desert (apart from the cars) but gets the period bang on in very subtle ways with some of the dialog etc..

Finally got around to watching One Summer, I was too young for it when it was originally broadcast, loved it, it’s rare to see real, authentic depictions of Northern working class life on screen (especially these days) I think that’s why it’s still held with so much affection by some people.
Reminded me of Kes in the sense of the longing to escape into nature from the grim reality of everyday poverty.,
The 3 leads are great and have a good chemistry, Spencer Leigh is fantastic as Icky, one minute hilarious then infuriating, David Morrissey, conveying his deep sadness at his situation without having to say anything & James Hazeldine, who gives a lovely, calm, gentle performance and is also trapped in a way, what a shame he died relatively young.

Just finished Tip Toe. Christ that was harrowing. Cumming and Morrissey were exceptional.
I applaud Davies for challenging audiences and giving voices to people who feel marginalised, I’m just not sure where I sit with it all. I was squirming a lot in the last two episodes. I know it’s deliberate, and I can’t deny its impact, I just feel his work gets overtly ideological, portraying certain social issues in ways that leave little room for nuance.
To me, his output increasingly speaks from a particular activist viewpoint rather than representing the full diversity of gay experiences. I guess that’s just his thing though right?

I really enjoyed it. Mrs came in with about 10 mins to go and it was a struggle to try and explain the links between all the characters.
Obviously the outcome was there from the start but enjoyed the story on how it got there.

My heart was in my mouth for that last thirty minutes. Knowing how it ended in advance somehow amplified the intensity of it all. Such a visceral journey.
David Morrissey was frightening.

I actually got tickets for the Brooklyn premiere, then forgot all about it and missed it! So I’m going to get that stream. Half-hope, half-dread I’m in the footage somewhere

I’ve been enjoying it. Serious but also a lot of fun and quite relevant although I always feel that Russel T Davies is like an ITV version of Charlie Brooker.
