Think Williams could have done without the interval, he had all the momentum before it and was on a roll, wanted to see him do it cos he’s an old f*cker like me
Props to the Chinese lad though, looks a great player,
Finished it last night, love Tina Fey but thought it was a bit meh apart from the daughter’s play scene which was funny.
“My personality is squats”
what a voice!
I’m enjoying The Studio too. It sort of reminds me of The Thick Of It. Very similar format, but instead of Civil Servants bumbling around and passing the buck its Studio execs. It looks properly expensive too.
I have several opinions on The Four Seasons but will wait until it’s been on a while to avoid spoilers!
Is anyone watching Andor? Im normally sceptical of Star Wars spin offs but this is a proper thriller and has carefully created and curated worlds and cultures and some proper plots. Really enjoying it
I also have opinions, and in the meantime, I am going to continue to look for the navy blue military suit thing that Danny was wearing. I’d be interested to hear why @Pulsatio7 found it meh, the wife and I got through it in two nights and enjoyed that we didn’t actually like any of the characters but didn’t hate them either bar Nick. Nick is/was a dick.
Maybe meh wasn’t the right word, given the talent involved, I expected more, I kept waiting for it to get going but it never really did for me.
Didn’t really like some of the casting either, never believed Steve Carrell and the lady playing his ex were married for decades, zero chemistry between them, the gay couple seemed tacked on, the Italian guy was like a caricature, straight out of central casting.
It also didn’t have anything original to say about topics that have been covered many times before, midlife crises, married couples growing apart, uni friends growing into middle age together…
I’m probably making it sound like I hated it, I didn’t, just underwhelmed by it really, the main disappointment was I expected it to be much more funnier than it was given Tina Fey, Steve Carrell and Will Forte’s involvement.
Four Seasons. My wife and I enjoyed it. Thought the writing was generally good and humour felt quite British. I guess these are mid-life/marriage themes which resonate fairly universally.
Been waiting until now so we can binge it. Excited to see it.
I really enjoyed it, funny and very easy viewing. Some episodes better than others so if you get a less funny one stick with it.
Yes, excellent isnt it. Proper grown up Star Wars with politicking, intrigue and story arc.
Slightly jarring there’s no aliens in it except a few token background characters, but I get they are trying to ground it as much as possible
Other than the odd Henson style puppet in the back of shot - I guess the fear of another JarJar Binks runs deep
Yeah, agreed, it’s the best thing they’ve done by a mile, I love how it’s so familiar (capitalism, authoritarianism, inequality, politics)
I try to explain this to people who’ve been put off by all the pew pew pew in the past but it never seems to work
Even the blasters have a proper physical effect on the people they hit and the Stormtroopers look for the very first time like they’ve had some military training.
Also the nod to the Wannsee Conference and the messy compromises rebels have to make all add to the grittiness and it feels like a proper mirror of our times.
The fascist subtext feels stronger this season, and the Nazi coding is actually quite overt. Its sort of a shame its only going to be two series and we largely know where the plot is heading. If it wasnt beholden to the events of Rogue One it would be fascinating where they could take it.
Hopefully they will do more adult centic series instead of announcing more and more Skywalker spin offs
Inter v Barca
Good Alan Alda cameo.
What a game
I thought the same thing, but then also wondered if it may be intentional?
The empire has always been single-species focussed (and even historically white male specific). I did expect to see more of a melting pot in the rebel factions, and also the wedding scenes, but maybe Mon Mothma is actively blending in to that scene on purpose.
