What are you watching?

Yes that series two card really pissed me off. Until that point I thought there was a good chance the Jackal wouldnt make it, so I spent the rest of the episode thinking the ending was going to be some kind of cliffhanger cop out. It wasnt quite that but absolutely no need to drop that in the middle of the finale. Do it at the end to keep folks on the hook. Tits

Just finished this, like a real life Coen Brothers movie as someone says, some absolute comedy gold in it.
Only in America.

Couple of Day of the Jackal spoilers in here for anyone who hasn’t watched it, don’t scroll up ^

Watched Casino again tonight. Fully expected to just have half an eye on it and be scrolling and probably tap out after a while, as I’ve seen it a fair few times over the years.

I devoured the entire film! In some ways it’s Scorsese by numbers, but the performances are just so fucking good.

My expat mate made this hat for me and I wear it often. Nobody out here blinks an eye. It still makes me laugh.

MUBI are really good with the subscription stuff. Every time you go to cancel it, they offer you half price (or they did a year or so ago).

Rewatching all the old Ernst Lubitsch movies in the run up to Christmas. Each one a perfectly crafted joy and festive to me because im pretty sure i discovered them on BBC2 at 11am on one of those lovely childhood days in late December leading up to Christmas…

‘To Be Or Not To Be’ is a really clever film. I remember watching it years ago wondering at the time whether they’d struck the right tone, bordering on bad taste but maybe now perceptions have shifted and an audience can appreciate it as a satire of its time?

Actually saw the recent Goebbels film at the cinema last week and was a bit disappointed… I think there was a squandered opportunity there to do something different, perhaps exploring the theme of brainwashing in more depth (similar to the Boys from Brazil) but it just felt like another nazi war film/history lesson

Yeah it’s very good so far… surprised at how well he’s suited to the role

Its shocking now and i guess when it was made the truth of the concentration camps was not widely known so making jokes about them was, like in ‘the Great Dictator’, just an extension of comedy’s usual role of showing the little guy get one over on the bully, without the specific horror of the Holocaust. But it still works because its genuine and universal and funny in its execution.

Yes, I meant to say that they are still doing that if you go to cancel again.

I ended up getting it for a year at £4.99 per month.

Can’t remember if I saw it recommended here but the Yacht Rock documentary is worth a look
