I watched this on Friday. Brilliantly put together and I enjoyed it more in retrospect than at the time I think. Were the rave flashbacks real do you think or her visualisation?
Her visualisation was my take.
Watched Candy on Disney over the weekend, more out of desperation than anything else.
Some good performances, killer hair-dos and outfits. Just felt a bit ‘thin’ somehow. Anyone else seen it?
I think you’re right. I watched episode 1 of Candy and then lost interest. I’d just watched Under The Banner of Heaven about a murder in the Mormon community in the early 80s so was a bit overdone on the death/religion/80s stuff, I guess.( UTBoH was good, if a little dense. )
Funny, we started Under the Banner a couple of months ago and didn’t get through it.
Ha ha. I guess it’s one or the other then!
I took the rave flashback bits to represent oblivion / depression, losing yourself in drugs etc. as they both experienced it at different points, also I think the end fits with this.
I read a review which spoke about the suggestion that he might have been gay. Not something I noticed on first viewing, I have to admit, but his conversation with the guy on the boat was a little flirtatious. Also the bit where she saw the two people kissing certainly meant something.
I enjoyed that, thanks.
Yes, agree with this. Started off pretty good, and then tailed off a bit.
I hadn’t even considered that but would make sense with the daughter being gay too. I love films that are deliberately ambiguous like this.
I had assumed that he killed himself shortly after the holiday
Watched this last night. Brutal! Didn’t mind the ending.
My son wanted to watch the Sopranos so I’m back in Tony’s world for the first time since the show aired in 1999! I gotta say, watching it again is just so much fun - I’m picking up on stuff I was too zooted to realise the first time around. Gabagool!
Also rewatching Peep Show from the start - not the first time I’ve rewatched the entire show and probably not the last. It really is a perfect comedy. My wife asked me who was worse, Jez or Mark, and the answer is they are both as bad as each other (although Mark is probably the prize winner if push comes to shove).
The Last of Us - I’ve noticed a drop off in this thread about this show, but I think it’s because we don’t want to spoil it for those who haven’t seen all the eps or are yet to watch. My missus usually will not watch anything with a horror themed element, and she loves it. For me, that’s a testament to how entertaining it is.
Yes that makes sense, thanks.
Interesting. I wondered that and even if one of those guys kissing actually was her Dad?
Yeah the fact that we’re talking about it afterwards shows the power of that ambiguity. I watched it with my 16 year old lad though who was very annoyed at the lack of a neat ending!
Yeah, I think that much is pretty clear. God that scene of them dancing together - don’t set me off again.
I watched all of Peep Show again last year, and enjoyed it even more second time around. Have you seen “Back”? Very funny too.
My missus is the same. This would not normally be something she’d watch but she showed interest and is now properly invested.
If anyones interested the HBO episode by episode podcast is great with the writer and showrunner. Its a pretty deep dive into how the series is put together
