What Are You Reading?

Talking to a mate today and we were both saying this is the best book on acid house. Genius book.

Really interesting book. I spend a few weeks every year in Norwich and once stayed in the street next to where the lecturer who is mentioned as passing away in the early stages of the book.

Also lucky to be there when they has an exhibition and lectures on Sebald at the castle.

I did read an opinion on it that said they didn’t enjoy it and Sebald hadn’t really captured the feel of the coast there. Always good to have a piece of art you like challenged.

As an aside if anyone reading this has never been Norwich is a lovely place to visit.

Hilarious

I’m midway through this book about the rise of Instagram and it’s takeover by FB–certainly germane since we’re all trying to eschew social media and engage on this forum. Generally avoid business books but this is really quite good. Excellent view into how Instagram was designed as well as anticompetitive tactics among tech companies in general (also highly recommend Anna Wiener’s Uncanny Valley as well)

The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe. I read it back in 1987 but didn’t get a lot of the references in it. Loving it all over again.

Up next: Analog Days: The Invention and Impact of the Moog Synthesiser.

Love that book. I remember reading it about the same time, 1987 before my first trips.

His other stuff is good too, The Kandy Kolored Tangerine Flake Streamline Baby

I am most definitely going to read the rest of his works. Love his style.

Did my first Acid in the summer of '87, I was 16, and saw this book not long after in the town library.

currently: The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet by David Mitchell
next: Underworld - Don Delillo (re-read)

Some great stories and unknown-to-me tracks listed in there. I’ve never read prose more in need of an editor and proofreader, however.

Wasn’t that keen on it. I didn’t think it was particularly well written.

I have just finished Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey. It was ok. A little bit of insight into the big bad world of Hollywood but a bit waffley at times. I am also reading How To Build a Healthy Brain. The diet bit has been particularly helpful. Not quite sure I will ever have a healthy brain mind ha.

I have not heard of this one before. Just found a copy for £154.99 on eBay. Think I may have to skip it

Little Big Beat Book (Rory Hoy) … couldn’t resist it

Barbarian Days by William Finnegan. I don’t surf and you don’t need to in order to be able to enjoy this book. Lush writing about him growing up in hawaii and beyond
