Only ever went twice. First time was really early, possibly a Thursday night in February. Was totally empty (natch) and freezing cold. Almost like being in a cold and empty warehouse unit . No idea what promoter was involved.
Second time was possibly to a night in the upstairs room, maybe Garage/House/Progressive night, can’t remember who, possibly Ashley K and crew. Main arena most definitely wasn’t for us.
Weird quote (not in quotation marks) from Eddie Richards. Has the writer got the wrong end of the stick, his Outer Limits night was at Rayzels
We had a Guerilla night here once in the 90s. We had a load of big DJs playing and it was empty. I went to get the money from the promoter and they were sat in an office with a few mates and a few guns on the table reading a gun magazine and he looked up and said “you’re not getting paid tonight mate” and I was like “yeah ok bye”. . Vibes!
Did you start the David Byrne yet? Asking for a friend who hasn’t bought someone special any presents yet. The someone special loves a good music biog, and David Byrne, but wondering how accessible this is to a non-musician or someone not that nerdy about recording etc? Thanks
Not started it yet, gimme an hour or so and I’ll flick through, has your ‘friend’ got a deadline for ordering? It does say you can read it in a non-linear fashion though which makes me think it may be a bit muso lead…
There is a lot of stuff like this but some nice anecdotes too, basically what the title says.
I’d give it a 4/10 for casual reader 9/10 for music types.
