Northern Soul is a pretty welcoming scene in my experience. Some of the best nights out I’ve ever had were in the old Belmont Social Club for Aberdeen NS club nights. Rough as fuck, on the Black and Tans all night, then a few Spicy and Coke to round it off! He sounds like a good time, probably stays busy slagging off the DJ for not playing the ‘original cover up’

After having taken a break from his books for a minute, I’m about halfway into Murakami’s Afterdark. Definitely darker than his other stuff that I’ve read, but I’m hooked.

Yeah it’s funny, I no longer have that record (lent it to someone never to be seen again ) but I remembered the sleeve notes AND the spelling mistakes!
Was the story about the 5k sound systems in Birmingham laundrettes true? I’ve always wondered. In Biorhytjms they said they put the sound systems in laundrettes that were open 24 hours a day so they could have raves and not get bothered by the police.
I’m not actually sure about the laundrette thing either but I remember reading on the sleeve too… Perhaps a Birmingham based TP er may know more… . Although I grew up not a million miles away in Cov we moved upto North Wales when I was 16 in '89. I probably wouldn’t have got into any of this type of music had I been knocking around with crowd I went to school with
