Top10s - Anything goes

Nabbed off Twitter. Graeme Park 1987. Definitely need to zoom in on this one :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m pretty sure I have this tape or one very near to it date-wise. Tbh the period where UK dj’s we’re transitioning between hip-hop and electro stuff and housier sounds is not my favorite. It makes for some awkward juxtapositions of songs and tempos and (I am REALLY NOT TRYING TO START A FIGHT HERE :grimacing:) by and large the dj’s I grew up listening to like red alert and Chuck chillout were just better at playing in this style.

Are you on about a Graeme Park tape?

US djs were better technically than UK ones with a few notable exceptions but was still a good scene.

Also were you listening to djs you mentioned in clubs or on radio as big difference.

Finally if you have a load of links to UK djs playing live in 86/87 can you share please as I can hardly find any!

I’m really bad at uploading shit but dm me your address and I’ll send you a dub of Graeme Park at the garage in (I think) 86. And yeah I’ve seen those dudes in a club and on the radio and in rocksteady park etc etc.

If you haven’t read it this interview with Graeme is great

Early Garage days / out scratching the Hip Hop DJs at local gigs / annoying Eric B when warming up

He was in Nottingham filming a documentary last week so expect soon

Thanks x , I think I’ve got that one with Virgo,Mr Fingers etc. Like what he does with DJs Delight.

There is a dearth of UK live mixes from 86/7.

Great dj and lovely bloke just can’t get into what he plays now. It mostly sounds like remixes of all the stuff he used to play.

Also strange Paolo Hewitt being on bill with GP, he was evangelical about House, he loved Blaze etc, and then he went off to do stuff about Oasis. Nothing against Oasis but one time he did review of Flowered Up at Land of Oz and hated it, despised the hooligan vibe and the to him awful music. Still you have to make a living.

Be good if he got/ gets T Cut F and Krush on it plus people he did Submission with. A pre 88 UK House documentary is long overdue. Was a bit of one for Ride the Rhythm comp but too London centric.

Carino and Jaques Theme get better with age.
