Still got my copy of Out and In

Is that from back of NME late '88? Loved those charts. Think Richard Norris from Grid wrote a Paradise column 88-89 (so many recommendations like Set Fire to Me at end of '88) and Matthew Collin reviewed stuff as well along with Dele Fadele. Was good for dance but think they never really got into Bleep/Hardcore/Jungle so stopped reading.

E2E4 was really hard to get back then, though think got a one sided bootleg next year. I heard the samples on Sueno Latino/Skeletor before I got my own copy.

Late 90/v early 91? Just before the pianos went way too overboard, just need JJ Tribute on there. Again the typos are quite endearing.

Don’t remember NOID and quite enjoying it now via You Tube.

I actually played that Jessie Dixon at 7 in the morning at a party 13 years ago and it worked so well that when it ended i just played it again and it worked even better the second time. It wasn’t a great night but it was an incredible morning! Still love that tune.

That sounds incredible.

That’s brilliant. I wonder what ESSP Services did (sell cool, electro-ey New Age music, by the looks of things)

I found out, via an old James Hamilton column online, that ESSP stood for Electronic Synthesizer Sounds Project and was a distribution service and library of thousands electronic albums. Sounds amazing. I wonder what happened to the collection.

Top 10 comfort foods I’ve made and enjoyed during lockdown

  1. Airfryer chicken wings with sticky sauce - a lockdown revelation. cheap as chips and you can either pre marinade them or coat with egg and pankow crumbs - a hit.

  2. Eggs on turkish bread toast - I recently got new fry pans that aren’t so abused that the teflon is peeling off and poisoning my kids. These eggs now cook perfectly and slide off the pan. Add a bit of butter, chili oil, garlic and onion powder to the pan prior to the eggs for best results.

  3. Chicken Schnitzel - make sure you pound it way flat and season the breadcrumbs. Don’t overcrowd the pan.

  4. 3 Bean Nachos - 3 types of beans and diced tomatoes etc in the slow cooker for the day. Home made guacamole, sour cream, good quality cheese, natural corn chips and sriracha sauce to top.

  5. Spaghetti Bolognese - would put this higher in the list, but I’ve made it so many times in the past, I can do it with eyes closed. Always use fresh rosemary stolen from neighbours garden and secret sauce tip - add one anchovy to give it a nice subtle saltiness.

  6. Airfryer vegetables - is there anything the airfryer can’t do? From Cauliflower to home made potato chips, pumpkin to parsnip…all hail the mighty airfryer.

  7. Pizza - OK, so I’m yet to prepare my own dough, but a secret to a good pizza is to pre cook the onions/mushrooms/ham/chorizo/baby spinach so that you can have the oven good and hot to work on the base and the cheese instead of having to cook all ingredients. Olives and anchovies a must as well.

  8. Salad - just kidding, it’s winter. In lockdown. Comfort foods only, thank you.

  9. Omlettes with leftovers - eggs have been a major player during lockdown, as have leftovers. Waste not, want not.

  10. Peanut butter on turkish toast - real butter, a good quality natural peanut butter and a nice
Turkish bread panini. Accompanied by a strong coffe made with a stovetop cafeteria.

You recommend an airfryer then? I’ve been thinking about jumping on that train.

I have a really quick and easy pizza dough that I make. A good trick is to roll out your base and give it a quick (2-4 minutes) blast in a hot oven. Leave to cool before adding your pre prepared/cooked toppings.

A favourite topping (and non tomato based) is caramelised red onion, potato, rosemary & gorgonzola
