But once every year to 18 months when by some miracle someone asks me to play a DJ set, I go through them in sheer joy and wonder.
It’s the closest I’ll ever get to winning the lottery.

I can remember a long time ago now we used to sell these 12’s for a lovely guy called Robert who owned the Music is… label. We all used to think how cool he was back then for getting these tracks on his own UK label from these two mysterious dertroit music producers. We used to ask him every week do you know kenny and theo and he would always be super coy about it and never gave anything away.
He also put out some Chris Gray, Rick Wade and Frankie Valentine stuff too which is worth checking.
Great times and great music…
The Moodymann 12 is similar to the Soul City 12 he did as KDJ
Can’t believe Smile is from 1997!!
I remember Robert! Often saw him in the shops and he was always up for a chat.
Great label - I had these, the Chris Gray and the Abstract Fusion comps
Bit of a departure for either Theo or Kenny.
Granted it’s waaay OT, but both are no stranger to a curveball either!
Charlie is the best, anyone go?
Was very entertaining that. Coincidentally I just started watching his latest one a bit earlier: blacktronica
Yeah me too, watched that first. Very insightful I thought.
I started watching, but found it a bit too school-lesson so stopped, might give it another listen.
I liked his honesty with regard to mental health, hit a note with me, he had a meltdown of sorts and didn’t DJ for 10 years, I’ve not played out since the late 90’s after similar situation.
sorry, not sure who you’re talking about here? Charlie dark?
Yes Charlie.
I was listening to this recording from the PP years (date/source unspecified). Had forgotten how much he chopped and changed, never settling into one groove for too long. Personally I found that approach a bit frustrating, we’d usually just hang about for an hour or so
*Lil Louis ‘how i feel’ still sounds acers
Thanks for the heads up @neatbeats on this that was a great watch! gotta love Charlie I remember going to these and CDR too was so much going on back then used to go out most nights. Went to the flyer boxes over the weekend and found these…
Acyde what a character !!
Here’s the link if anyone wants to watch it.
Divert from topic sorry
Yeah I think I went to that, part of the red bull music academy when it came to London. Can remember Kenny being very nifty with a pair of skates (whereas most of us were just focussed on not falling over).
Remember seeing KDJ play Sankeys behind a bed sheet if I remember correctly. I’m all in for such self indulgent antics and giving zero fucks.
