i must have heard this on a recent mix or something, it’s really familiar. considering it was WL only and from 30+ years ago, i know it’s not one i had or played a bunch of times.
Repressed on backatcha records
Bought my copy of this in Flying Records, Kensington Mkt if I remember correctly.
One of my wife’s all time favourites
FLUTES C & M CONNECTION - YouTube not one for the purists but you can definitely sneak it in to a UK streetsoul mix
Been on the wants list for a while that one.
My advice would be wait for a NM or a verifiable VG++, it suffers from the issue that almost all UK Street Soul suffers from, namely that persistent surface noise on an otherwise perfect looking record.
Early street soul??
A rarish find in Vinyl Underground the other day. Love this and certainly the ‘sound of now’
I can totally imagine finding this in VU
Kinda yes, but just more Patrice being totally amazing. What a dominating force.
Loads of great street soul varieties being reissued on free style. Vinyl bit cheaper from the label too
Trying to revive this thread with my ultimate Street Soul Youtube playlist, here: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDGQDudf0RbaGUCph3bXIC7ohP9x8-peS
And a recent mix I did for GDS.FM, here:
Although from Switzerland Street Soul has always been one of my favorite genres of all time. Combining a hiphop mentality with soulful vocals, a lovers rock attitude towards bass lines and melodies, a DIY-craftsmanship in production and what Mark Rae said: “the opposite of rave, it’s music as an emotional drug, based on the human need of closeness”. The few times I’ve been in London at parties where they played Street Soul were the most defining moments for my musical education.
Great playlist. Thanks for sharing.
Tucked away on a fairly forgettable comp. Mafioso – Mafioso (1991, Vinyl) - Discogs
I like this one

Lovely
Couple of nice re-issues from Backatcha.
