on the web we still partly control the platform, so we can block ads on Instagram and YouTube, but Instagram experience is best on mobile and ads are pretty annoying.
On the general topic of streaming platforms. Is anyone using apple music or Deezer for lossless downloads? Under the impression that it’s doable? And are many independent/“underground” artists also publishing on these platforms? (Being a bit lazy I could probably investigate this more myself but figure I’ll get a decent idea from here, with overlap in taste)
Have finally decided to delete Instagram. It just eats too much of my day up and I’m trying to stay off my phone in front of the kids (9 and 6).
Weirdly, I’ve not missed it yet. Which is a bizarre thing to consider when it’s not actually real life.

I did six months without it last year but then went back and you just get sucked right in again. I probably waste an hour a day on it which is nuts when you think about it - a couple of weeks of every year scrolling through shit that I survived without quite happily for 45 years …

I’ve found that I’m still reaching for my phone but it seems Insta was the vacuum cos since I’ve binned it I just put it down again pretty quickly.
You’ll probably see my activity on here treble now to fill the void. That or digging on Bandcamp and Discogs. My other half will be thrilled…

Im desperate to delete Facebook, but its the last place i stay in touch with a lot of people that it would be odd to reconnect with in some more direct way so im kind of stuck. But i hate it and the constant attempts it makes to get me to watch mean and unpleasant content.

I weaned myself off facebook last year. I still have an account which I just pop on to post music info: mixes and gig info etc. Have no desire to ever look at it. Anytime I do catch myself starting to scroll its just the same old people moaning or shitty click bait videos. There is no appeal whatsoever. The only one I spend too much time on is Insta but it doesn’t really annoy me like all the others do

I saw something earlier that Insta engagement is at an all-time low. Certainly it’s no longer fun. And AI slop has just made it worse. But I have longtime group chats that run all day and it’s really the only place to engage as a kind of public photo diary–music, wine, food, travel. Someone really needs to come up with a replacement ASAP.

Insta is fine if you don’t go on reels I reckon, same as anything really. When you make a point of not engaging in short form video content you soon forget about it.
Time limit is handy also, set it on 30 minutes per day a while back and often don’t hit that anymore. Will change it to 15 soon but got a party to promote for March so not yet!
Much prefer forums or even reddit (but barely post)

I set a time limit for insta. I just used to keep pressing ‘ignore limit for today’ when I hit my 15 mins
Best intentions and all that. I did right to delete mine, I’d probably have a better chance of managing a sensible smack habit.

Yeah, I couldn’t be trusted to self police with those 15 minute limits.
Been Insta free for a few months. I’ve noticed I can never click on mates’ Whatapp links as they’re always a FB/Insta link

Instagram is becoming unusable. Every other post on my feed this morning is an ad.
Ever report an ad to say you’ve already bought something from the ad? Fuck you, you get more of the same. BUY MORE FOOL.
