I used to think the AI apocalypse would be like Terminator, with robots shooting lasers and destroying human civilisation. It now seems that the AI will just use social media to foment war and unrest and we humans will all just destroy each other ourselves as a result.
…and THEN the robots with lasers will come.
If they were making the movie today John Connor would have to send someone back in time to kill Zuck or Musk’s mom or whomever…
Apparently Twitter is paying Andrew Tate now. https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2023/07/13/twitter-creators-payments-right-wing/ I think that might be the end.
Alternatively this might be the end:
I must admit after Croatia I have stopped looking at Twitter. Work wise nothing really interesting happens and bar that it’s just a bit grim really now. I’ll miss the opinions of the odd person but hey ho. I think I’m getting over an hour a day back.
Hey Paul since you mention Croatia any chance of a report? Morning sessions looked lovely Were the mixes recorded ?
Yeah same I’ve given it up
I was (suddenly and inexplicably) being targeted with relentless amounts of ads (sponsored tweets or whatever they’re called)
Yet to find a social media platform I like so I’m consigned to the forums and discord chats of musical equipment. Miss the political discourse, jokes and heads up on record releases but not much else
I still love Instagram. Endless amounts of cool music and art accounts and posts. Would everyone be up for a thread for posting good accounts to follow?
Of course. Do it. You never have to ask! X
Do it please!
Yeah I’m curious
I’ve hit a snag in the Insta thread idea. The forum dosen’t generate a preview for the account, just log in bumph. So we’d have to include the account name and type or it’ll just be a random list.
How about formatting like this?

Cheers, @Gavin. Just checked on my phone and it’s same.
Title (Type) formatting seems to be the best way.
Maybe a cheeky screenshot?
Top idea!

I joined Substack. Feel free to subscribe for the (free) newsletter. A mixture of English and Spanish content about BCN life, music, travel, middle-age etc. A labour of love till I find a proper job. If any of you are on there I’ll link to your site in the ‘Recommends’
Last paragraph is great and ties in with what is happening on this forum.
“Fortunately, the original small community ethos of the early Internet seems to be mounting a comeback in forms like podcasting email newsletter, Discord groups, and TalkNats.com-style discussion sites—all of which can offer a more homegrown and personal variety of online interaction. These efforts deserve our attention more than the spectacle of billion-dollar companies falling over themselves to force together as many people as possible. To make the online experience less hostile, we don’t need ever-more complicated algorithms deployed by ever-larger platforms. It’s enough to instead return to a conception of digital interaction that occurs on a much more human scale.”
Great article. Cal Newport has long been a voice of reason on this topic, in my opinion.
The flurry of replacement “social” media platforms that pop up everywhere now seem to miss the point that their social structures are fundamentally flawed, and will likely just produce the same results.
Forcing millions of people into the same shared conversation is unnatural, requiring aggressive curation that in turn leads to the type of supercharged engagement that seems to leave everyone upset and exhausted.
