The record that went down the absolute best from your most recent DJ gig

I’ll go first.

The Blue Nile - The Downtown Lights

Played this about 1/4 of the way through because I felt I was a little flat and needed a reset. Had at least 7 people ask me what it was.

Also, it was in a bar up in the mountains of Maine, so could play whatever I wanted. Owner of the bar is a lurker on here and a long-time music head who moved there from New York. Holds 80 people and somehow they were all New Yorkers.

What are we qualifying as a success? If someone shuffles up to the booth and wants to know the name of the record I’m chalking that up as a win these days. The days of getting sweaty hands in the air are mostly behind me

Good thread idea

These 2 tunes made a visible energy shift, hands in the air and big smiles during my last set.

I think someone asking you what the record was or spotting a cheeky Shazam qualifies.

The only time I actually DJ now is doing these occasional house parties we do at a friend of a friends house, 2/3 times a year. Just me and one other DJ’ing.

Very chill (and older crowd) to begin with. I’m mainly playing reggae and dub. Anything off the Ekowmania LP goes down well.

Later on, a lot younger people join, and it starts to get lively. This one went down off which surprised me tbh. Think it was the contrast to the tune played before.

They were loving anything acidy too.

This one has never failed, always gets people smiling and asking — a recommendation from the TP Forum crew!

it’s very rare I’m allowed near a pair of decks but I did get involved 2 years back at a record shop bar near me and someone came over and asked about Supermax Love Machine which amazed me as I thought everyone knew it.

I realized the one night that I’m so much in a TO bubble - to the point where I described myself to my wife as a “TP Forum Tribute Act” - that records that I think “everyone knows” is well and truly not the case. Like the dub of Leave Your Life felt like playing Car Wash or something but people had no idea and loved it.

Another couple from the past that have rocked peoples socks off

Played @ +8 :bomb:

Can be found on the B-side of If I Give My Heart To You

This has never failed to rescue/blow up a dance floor. Produced by Curtis Mayfield, remixed by Tom Moulton :fire: :fire: :fire:

Just remembered another simple but effective one from a night playing Manchester. Still gives me a buzz thinking about it.

I played at the Jazz Bar in Edinburgh between the bands and then closing the night and dropped this sorta naff-but-fun cover at the end and it seemed to have people rushing over to give me props. Stressful gig, cos it’s vinyl only with no monitor and you are a distance from any speakers.

I made this naff-but-fun edit of a cover for playing at Paradise Palms and played it sped up to just over 120bpm. Not a surprise it went down well tbh, it is quite a well known song.

Ha, spent many a day/night in the Jazz Bar, usually against my will. It was all very uncool to the young me, who only cared about skateboarding and house music. I’m related to the late Bill Kyle and my auntie was a regular from the start, at the original Cowgate venue.

This was my favourite obviously. People think it’s David Bowie.

John Gomez played Tinseltown in the Rain at Giant Steps the other week and I had a psychedelic assisted borderline religious experience
