The KLF - Come On Dawn 2021

He also used the “as a dog returneth to his vomit so a fool returneth to his folly.” Quote in the past to justify one of their many about turns, best to never take them seriously at all and just enjoy.

I guess they wouldn’t be able to afford the licensing for the samples. Seems to be similar to the original with no samples but more Rev Dr James Wade who made this little corker. https://www.discogs.com/Rev-Dr-James-Wade-The-Whole-Church-Should-Get-Drunk/release/8627514

You may have enjoyed original version as part of a Sunday melting out of the weekend session. Even if not, what I love most about it is the fact it coined a whole description and new name in common use, every primary school I go in today has got a cushioned, bean bagged small room called the ‘Chill out’ room in it. Well done Bill and Jimmy

Indeed. They inspired money burners all over the world too

The Elvis sample is an absolute highlight from the original, will probably just keep listening to the Mixcloud rip to be honest…

This PSB rmx is in a similar vain , but also completely off the chain . I would love to have been a fly on the wall in the A&R meeting when this came in https://youtu.be/ar9gVgY6Qbg

This is an interesting reinterpretation of Chill Out made by A Strangely Isolated Place from a few years back complete with download links.

The overall idea for this mix has been in my head for a few years now. I got to the point where I decided to try and capture all new field recordings and maybe one day, actually make some music to accompany them. As it turns out, that was way too ambitious. I ended up staying as close to the original album as I could with the premise of not lifting anything from it. I laid the original album down as one track in Ableton, and then started adding music and moments in parallel, eventually removing the original album completely. The tracks I chose vary from classic pieces, to slightly more obscure, and some even released within the past few months.

The end result is a similarly timed and themed reinterpretation of the overall concept, with completely new music and samples. Just two small moments in here use the same sample that ended up in the original KLF recording (as much as we can only assume), but they are used slightly differently in this version.

I had to stop myself getting meta with the interpretation and remind myself to zoom out every now and then and build this as an enjoyable mix. I could have - in theory - copied every single moment down to a tee with a new or similar sound, but there were some moments that I enjoyed the flow and let it continue. There were moments from the original album that, when taken out of context, you could never even start to replicate in any way. And then there were some that seemed to be reflected nicely with a new piece of music.

Loved everything about them. I went to a listening session of the chillout album here a couple of years back and there were earnest people sat in the bar who had just come in after work and who were taking it really seriously and meditating. was struggling not to crack up.

kinda super bummed that it’s only available as a streamable release

Yeah if they pressed it on vinyl I’d bang. Still got my original copy though

The Strangely Isolated Place reinterpretation is great. Same but totally different. Respectfully disrespectful :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Just playing on Spotify. Have a little post lunch doze, life is good

Anyone remember when the KLF Ford Timelord was parked up in Soho Square?

What happened?
They trashed this guy’s replica one in Liverpool a couple of years back

Listened to both today. Tommy Vance sample Rock Radio into the nineties and beyond always gave me a bad come down anyway, better off without that IMHO :joy:

Just got the reissue Chill Out LP. All seems to be in place (as far as I can remember) Elvis, Acker, Fleetwood Mac, Fat as a rat guy etc etc.
Pressing decent as well, considering how it was recorded. Well happy to finally get my hands on a copy. Still does it. :grinning:
