We had a great day/evening on the Friday. Loads of bods out and weather really played ball. Took a few mates, three of whom had never been before and I think it blew their tiny minds.
Would loved to have been there on the Sunday too, tbh. Unfortunately, we had Melon Bomb doing their closing party at Freddie’s and so the less said about that the better…
Really like the new layout of the place though.

It was extremely busy when I arrived around 5pm. Very much an older crowd (I actually felt young). Richard Norris was great round the pool as was Russ with some lovely deeper jazzy stuff taking it up til 10pm. Plaza Mayor was rammed when I took over, but when Freddies opened at 11 there was a mad dash to get in. I expected it to happen but the floor remained fluid with people drifting between spaces the rest of the night. I had a look in at Luke and Benji when I finished and it was totally rocking with a mix of italo, disco and house. Plenty of room to move though. Luke was taking no prisoners. Unfortunately I got caught on his Insta bouncing round like a loon down the front and I’ve been fielding pisstake messages ever since

So I was reading this article Andrew shared in another thread
and agree with much of it as a comment on where things are at, but I think there were 2 main weaknesses.

I don’t think he travelled nearly enough. There are several smaller spots he didn’t mention at all, such as Lolas, Sigma, Akasha and Vaughn’s new club in the old town, which are all light years away in spirit from the mafia clubs (I couldn’t comment on the actual music)

He didn’t go out of season when all the cooler stuff generally happens, which I think is increasingly significant nowadays
The impression I got visiting the other week was that yes everything feels very Pikes-centric if you want the good stuff but equally we didn’t really dig that deep elsewhere. You could have fun at a dance bar like Paradise Lost and still meet ‘characters’ of old and looking longer term I’d guess the smaller bars are where it is all heading (in terms of the music/vibe I’m after)

Going on Wednesday for a few days, annual October visit, just me and the Mrs never a plan but always at least one mad day/night or vice versa. . looking forward to visiting Vaughan at the Aluna bar , I’ve known Vaughan since early 90s when he had the OG funky Room in Pacha, Jonathan (before he was called Jon sa trinxa, Jose and Sean Campbell) who I was staying with not far from Pacha were the Djs, I remember his Monkey Bar that we went to one February for jerk chicken Tuesday and to watch the footie… Some friends have moved on and sadly passed away 
So happy he’s involved with this bar and still calling it Funky 
one of the last true characters who has had Knock backs and places closed and still comes back smiling and doing what he loves I’ll have to ask about Fckn sporty spice playing there for sure… can’t wait

Here’s my set from Pikes in the Plaza Mayor last Sunday from 10pm to 1am. Starting off with some breezy balearic beats then moving swiftly into full dance floor power. You will forgive one or two inelegant transitions, someone got a little over familiar with the Vodka Limon’s. The writing was on the wall when I got the UK/EU time mixed up and thought the equipment wasn’t set up in time for my slot, resulting in a full panic run around the venue looking for the sound engineer, collaring every poor staff member I could find. I was only an hour early 
Cue red cheeks and sheepish looks abound.
