Is blue bar still going in formentera? Not been over since 2007 and it was pretty devoid of wallies and Brits back then. DJ played Shape of my Heart by Sting as the sun set and I polished off a pina colada. Pretty Balearic.

Love Formentera, really enjoyed cycling to Es Pujols from the harbour last time, with its sand dunes and hidden paths. You can even still find the iconic lizards, currently being wiped out by imported snakes on Ibiza. L’espalmador is pretty special too. I remember my parents both went in the mud baths starkers, an image no 12 year old ever wants to see

We turned up in Ibiza that summer on a boat which i’d repeatedly puked up on, after some savage oysters and/or due to rough sea. Schoolfriend of my mum invited us for the week. Had never heard of the island before that. Stopped off for a couple of nights in the zodiac apartments in SA Bay, which was wall to wall english in union jack shorts mooning on the waterslides whilst some covers band from Runcorn mutilated ‘under the boardwalk’ and ‘la bamba’. Somehow also made it to the old town. Extravagant parade down carrer de la virgen (2 different worlds). Summer 87, possibly around the same time the Famous Four™️ were discovering the New World. It was just another summer holiday for me. Who knew…

Yes, it is still there. But, let’s just say it has “moved on”.
It now sells incredibly over-priced food and drinks and have a “show” a few nights where someone on stilts, dressed up as some sort of green alien, twats about in a smoke machine fog and light show, to distract punters from the prices.
If a nine foot green pretend alien, dated trance and shit nachos are the evidence and fundamentals of a progressive and restless Balearic spirit, I think the deluded, imaginary and idyllic ethos many of us harbour, may have taken a wrong turn some time back.
I didn’t see one poncho there. Not one.
Just confused Italians.
And that rare facial expression your missus has when she insists you go somewhere as “it will be fun”, and immediately regrets doing so.

The highlight for me of our short visit, was this incredible looking, beautifully dressed in a figure hugging crochet dress, Italian woman strolling in looking really angry. As in fucking furious. This intrigued me. Bar the having a moody cob on, she looked like a Balearic fantasy. Even my missus was like “Wow”.
The mystery was solved, when her fella bowled in some way behind her dressed head to toe in red Ferrari merch.
Felt for her. Trying to seethingly ignore an apologetic date, bizarrely dressed like F1 Pit Crew, yet her main distraction was a giant green trance dancing alien.
I guess she questioned her life that night.

Now I think about, they had that alien thing when I was there 17 years ago, and the shit trance music after sunset, I think that’s when we left. There were lots of incredible Italian Mums that I had to pretend I wasn’t ogling under my sunglasses.
