That thread kinda confirms my view on the secret DJ - he writes well and makes some interesting points but it’s always suffused with bitterness and ego which ends up putting me off even though I agree with his general point of view.
I like him. He’s a decent guy who comes across well.
I’m sure there are many people who think the opposite though.
Seems to me TSDJ has basically set himself up as Ibiza’s last ‘punk’ - perhaps no bad thing when there’s nobody else with that reach taking on the ‘industry’. Whether it is motivated by ego is another matter, but I know for a fact he wouldn’t be the only DJ to have had issues with AM/Pikes
I saw a comment under the Ibiza mixmasters villa retreat,.Come join us…
A lawsuit waiting to happen.
Always had a lot of time for TSDJ on the old faith forum and like him now. He’s a nice fella.
A rare foray into the office for me on Monday so I can pop to soho and grab a copy - looks ace
Fair enough. I’m sure he is and he does play a useful role in railing against the industry as Hierbas says above.
Watching Ibiza - Secrets of the Party Island on iPlayer / BBC3.
It’s been a long time since I’ve been there. Sadly, I think it’ll be a long time until I go again. God, it’s changed.
The presenter made me just now - police showed her pills called “pink cocaine”. She said “They’re not even cocaine - they’re usually cheaper drugs, like MDMA or ketamine” like that was a bad thing
That aside, it’s a really shit look at the white isle, totally money focussed
Gets worse by the minute. Please don’t give it any hits, it’s awful
It’s on BBC now I’m finding it hard to watch or switch off lol
Got as far as Wayne Lineker
after watching EP1 of that cuntfest, I sincerely wish a rogue missile could take them all out.
I didn’t get through ep1 but felt the same
I think I heard Shakira being mentioned just before WL appeared on screen…
So I watched all 4 episodes (for my sins…) and my conclusions are:
-
The series focused one strata of Ibiza. I’ve no idea what % of the island owns luxury villas/yachts but obv there is an obscene amount of wealth invested there. As an advert for unreconstructed trash capitalism, look no further. A cursory mention of homeless workers sleeping in tents. Sick bucket at the ready.

I was struck by just how vacuous a lot of these people are, like they’re dead inside. There’s no soul or curiosity about the world or compassion or eccentricity or knowledge. Your online status is everything, where everybody is playing a part. You can’t help wondering about the emptiness in their lives, where only money is king. You kind of miss the old bohemians who were at least interesting.
-
The whole thing was pretty much Brits 20-40. No other nationalities and certainly no locals apart from the cops, defence lawyers and ambulance crews (the only heroes here). Plus a few shady Rolex thieves ‘from the Naples area’ but you found it hard to spot who the main villains were in a crowded field.
-
Music barely featured at all. The way music (and not just in Ibiza…) has gradually been relegated to a side condiment hasn’t been commented on much but is very telling. O Beach isn’t a place to hear music, and seems to be the future of entertainment where instead of pubs/clubs, the kids attend garish theme bars with no real focal point. Without pneumatic tits or biceps you’re nothing.
-
It was heavily sensationalised, from the undercover ops to melodramatic meetings with dealers in poorly lit tunnels. I reckon the stretched Spanish cops agreed to get involved thinking it might help them lobby for more resources. This wasn’t Roger Cook journalism though and my guess is this photogenic influencer was commissioned because she had a big following.

Finally, it showed a really depressing side of holiday colonialism, the way people take over somewhere and no longer even know/care where they are. Parts of that island (esp in the north, Sant Miquel, Sant Joan) are still amazingly beautiful and the last thing it needs is yet another ‘Uncovered’ selling shit to arseholes.
Pneumatic tits
Me too…it was a nice friendly event…couldn’t justify stumping up £45 for the book at the moment though!
Thanks for the review. You went above the call of duty there. I’m not sure whether I want to bother with it now, but part of me has a morbid, ‘car-crash’ fascination with watching the awful people.
Just saw Grace Jones is performing at Flower Power this summer!
