I did wonder about kimchi and sauerkraut but its definitely making me feel better gutwise. Have tried to cut down hams and cured meats as they are a big salt thing, havent got high BP but don’t want to have to stop eating them.

Relate to this 100%
I quit fags 15 yrs back- medium patch and gum combo then dropped the gum then the patches… then started filling in the gaps with sweet snacks… esp Dairy Milk which I’m hopelessly addicted to,I’m afraid- still.

Attempting to quit smoking for the millionth time but something just feels different this time. Day 4 no cigarettes or vape and if I can make it through the next 4 days at work I feel this may be it for good. Does anyone have any tips for how not to over eat? I’ve ordered some of that Berberine but I’m still a bit hesitant to try it

I’d say don’t beat yourself up a) if you relapse, every time you fail you’re actually getting better at succeeding and b) eating too much to compensate. Eating too much is massively less worse than smoking :+1:

I’ve quit alcohol altogether (not that I drank that much anyway), bought a weights bench and some dumbbells. I’ve been doing 10k steps per day for the last month and I’ve never felt better. My job is still getting to me but the exercise keeps me sane.

I’ve lost 1/2 stone in 30 days and I feel like the exercise is now part of my routine. I’m mid 50s and have never been toned in my life. That’s my goal for 60.

Not sure what inspired me, but the need to extend my life as much as I can has been one of the drivers.

If you’re in a funk, I’d recommend walking somewhere green(ish) everyday for starters. I certainly feel happier.

Hope this provides some inspiration of some kind x

Been on the kombucha shots , bloke near us makes it and sells it on the farmers market, all organic. Defo cuts down sugar cravings.

just over eat… it’s the nicotine now, all the rest is secondary

Weights are a game-changer. There really is so much you can do - building strength, toning. I find I can get into a meditative state lifting when I focus on breathing exercises and technique. Burns through the calories, too and you’ll sleep very well.

Agreed.
One thing at a time!
Quitting smoking is the priority address the double cheeseburgers later!
Something that worked for me was deciding that decent coffee was going to replace fags, so every time I wanted a smoke I’d very often have a coffee instead- similar effect as well

Also, telling yourself smoking is a twentieth century habit worked for me too-

If you’re struggling cold turkey don’t cave in, get NRT instead. Nicotine in itself isn’t that harmful at low doses and it’s the hand to mouth thing you need to shut down. I found a 14/15mg patch plus gum works best. Patch gives you a baseline, gum helps manage the cravings more flexibly…

Can’t drink coffee unfortunately as it gives me major anxiety and heart palpitations so been caffeine free since lockdown but I do still enjoy a decaf coffee when I’m out and about. But yeah very true, I’ve actually got the nicorette spray in my pocket just in case I feel the urge at work. But 3 or 4 sprays of that a day can’t be as bad as 10+ cigs a day right?

No not at all.

When I first quit I was on a patch and getting through the lozenges/ gum like crazy. You can take 15 a day if I remember rightly
The niquitin minis work best in terms of a quick buzz similar to a fag, don’t taste great but keep the wolf from the door

Love it  walking somewhere green we used to take for granted for years and luckily we can within a few minutes. Giving up alcohol I would really struggle with as I love a drink or two most nights be it in a bar after work or at home with dinner… luckily I can have two or three and leave it at that…
