I’m 4 weeks into my second serious attempt to kick the sweet shit. I think the problem is that sugar is in so many things, so by simply stopping with the cakes. chocolates, biscuits and whatnot, you aren’t properly cutting the habit. Hence the cravings remain.
I read a book about this. You literally have to stop all of it, then you puke loads, then you’re allowed to slowly reintroduce fruit etc. came with recipes. Will send a photo (of the book)… I’m not ready yet : )
Sugar is my vice too, and it got worse after I gave up smoking (20 years next year).
I agree with the above, you have to be sick of it. I stopped after a massive session - I was being sick the next day and all I could smell was cigarettes. I felt too grim to smoke the next day and the day after that I had to go on a flight. By the time I landed, I’d not had one for a couple of days and I just carried on. Every time I wanted one I associated it with the smell of being sick. Probably six months later I smoked a couple on a night out, and for quite a long time I could smoke on a big night out without ever going back to the habit. Now I can’t stand the smell of it at all, and would never go back. I can’t even remember the last time I smoked one but I remember not enjoying it at all.
Sugar I don’t know even where to start but really need to tackle it as I’m the sort of person who can eat a packet of biscuits without even thinking about it.
This thread got me onto the Berberine. So far I’m 7 weeks with no chocolate/biscuits/sweets. Still allow myself a sugar in my morning coffee, but I don’t snack during the day any more and only eat lunch and dinner, both of which are somewhat carb/calorie controlled without being too hardcore about it. Already my clothes fit better and I feel a lot less sluggish.
Does Berberine work? Can’t say for sure, but even as a placebo, it’s brilliant!
I’ve been trying this for a few weeks, but have had a few gaps as I keep fogetting to take.
I assume you need to let it build up after taking every day for 2-3 weeks before noticing the benefit?
I’ll be surprised if it works on me for a couple of reasons…
I’m already firmly into intermittent fasting (no brekky, only eat between 12.30-7.30pm).
My daily cycle commute totals 22 miles, so after I’ve had my dinner it’s a real struggle not to follow with some chocolate, yoghurt, crackers, anything at all!
Will try and have a concerted effort to keep it up, so I can truly detect the benefits or not.
I haven’t but I have suffered from digestive issues after gastric illnesses (and strong antibiotics to treat them) from spending a lot of time in developing countries. I’ve discovered you need the bacteria in your stomach so I’d be wary of anything which risks flushing out the good as well as the bad.
