Test Pressing OAP Sk8 Crew

any idea where that second-to-last photo came from? the jump ramp japan air?

looks a whole lot like the old mount tabor contests in portland - i think i skated in the 86 and 87 ones.

oh sweet - thanks for posting this.

a couple of years go i met him through my brother-in-law, and he’s super nice. i didn’t realize who he was and we spent a bunch of time talking about spending time in japan, about local real estate (he lives really close to where i grew up), about the best local parks for our kids. i finally put it together like OH DAMN that’s a SOTY right there, how cool is that?

it’s still so weird for me to see portland so on-the-map when it comes to skating. when i grew up there it was so raw and wet that there was hardly any scene and anyone who was trying to make it moved to california. everything changed post-burnside (and after nike/adidas got involved).

That’s pretty cool… Always liked him and Rick Mc Crank… His old skate buddy dog died few months ago :pensive: he used to be in all his video parts, always in the van and running around the skate parks. He posted some great pictures on his Instagram and wrote a touching tribute to the dog…

I never knew Snow skate was a thing :snowflake:

gonna need a full hour for this one, plus the big TV.

growing up skating in portland was kind of weird - there weren’t any ramps to speak of (a couple but they were remote, privately owned and tended to last about a year due to rain rot) and hardly any transitions to skate.

around the time burnside was being built, the move was towards the streets. by the time burnside was being built out, most of us were done with jump ramps and were now trying to figure out handrails and ledge tricks. i went down there once or twice when it was just the one wall, but the scene was gritty and i couldn’t really skate that type of stuff anyway, so i went back to the lincoln ledges. i wish i would have spent more time under the bridge, learning the ways of the gnar and vert.

Amazing… This guy known as Lefty lost his right arm in a car accident and him saying that when he falls he has to try and fall on his left side must be next to impossible when falling off skateboard… He slams hard
