Swedish Balearic

With the news of the Studio repress, it’s got me listening back to all my favourites from that scene. What are some of your favourites?

Interesting thread! I’m swedish. Can’t see what you’re posting, maybe it would make more sense to just post the title.

Anyways, Paris Bis is the best swedish balearic record ever.

Björn J:son Lindh - Transea
Dina Ögon - Album
Anita Strandell - Elektriska du

Mare Mare, edited or not, reminds me of weekend mornings cleaning the house and doing laundry with my mum listening to Svensktoppen. As far from Ibiza you could possibly get.

Haha glad it evoked that memory

Dr Alban - hello afrika
Family Four - En häst utan namn (you’ll recognise it within a nano second!)
Cardigans - Carnival
there is a Little Dragon sunset beaut too but can’t remember the name

*not strictly balearic but Gothenburg-based blogger Jon Freer wrote an excellent guide to the Gonkyburg scene a few years back (Plej being the most well known act)

Thanks so much for all the amazing posts here! When I originally posted, my focus was on the mid 00s-early 10s, but learning a bit about the lineage of where those tunes came from has been fascinating!

Some of my favourites from Sweden:
Per Tjernberg - They Call Me LP
Betina - Two Pair of Eyes
ZZAJ - Tänker På Dig
Nasa - Isopopanoi
Tom Wolgers - Vinterpassage
Roger Rönning - Cecilia
Chris Linn - There’s No Hope In Dope

Paris Bis and everything produced by Tom Wolgers is worth to check out.

Not sure if it’s balearic, but it’s a beauty. The whole album is great (album 4), as is album 5.

That Parlour edit was ace.

Had a proper ‘head down’ moment when Brewster dropped this at Country/Wild Life

Paresse - Little Wanderer

Yeah Per Tjernberg is nice, some cool bits on the cheap albums too. Tom Wolgers made some beautiful records but Paris Bis is the obvious balearic choice imo.
When it comes to Roger Rönning we used to say that it’s music that nobody really likes played in bars no one goes to, not totally true but there’s a point in there somewhere.
The whole scene of people reviving 70s and 80s swedish pop has imo been the worst music trend in my 28 years of DJing in Stockholm.
