Starter Kits on Things We Love

Had one of these for years which did a great job at the cheaper end of the scale

I inherited a used one of these and it’s amazing, can’t recommend it enough:

Also, I can highly recommend these for coffee makers:

I’d go for this one, no grinder though.

I’m guessing this needs to be here. Shout out to @Mandarina for the heads up

The link takes you to the £6350 “Group 3” rather than the £5325 “Group 2”. I assume you could just wait a bit longer and make an extra cup with the Group 2, and save a grand. Not that I could afford either, of course!

Think Sun Ra does a coffee grinder exclusively for the garden.

Not worthy of a response :upside_down_face:

Ha, so, I went to workshop at a roastery yesterday, delayed Christmas gift from 2022!
I left thinking I need scales and a new grinder :joy:

And so it begins!

Interesting side note, it seemed a lot of principles I am learning about hifi apply to coffee.
Mileage varies, taste is unique, but control variables and simplify.
Also, having worked “in” music for a bit, and feeling like I saw behind the “wizard’s” curtain, and getting a bit moany as a result - the coffee world seems the same.
He started out passionate but had a lot of moans about the “business” of coffee.

Plus ça change…

It’s an Expobar Office Lever, Grinder is Eureka Mignon… about 9 years old now and been surpassed by a lot for the home barista. Home brewing has seen an explosion and lots of better stuff aimed at the low volume brewer. Never ending but managed not to upgrade, just got better at making coffee which was the original idea and we don’t have any decent coffee spots within 20 miles.

A lot like NOT buying a Ecler Warm…

Order some greens and try roasting yourself. All you really need is a pan, a whisk, and a bit of practice. For a small batch, a thrift shop popcorn popper literally performs every bit as good as the fanciest roaster. Over the years I’ve come to realize that far too much commercially roasted coffee, even from “artisanal” roasters, is a profit-driven compromise, old, and/or just plain poorly roasted.

Took one of these at 4am on Friday morning to help me stay awake while I watched the first day of the Test match in bed.
I appreciate it lacks some of the nuance and dedication described in this thread but ultimately as a non coffee drinker it did what I was hoping for.

Marks & Spencer Gold Label - Nothing else comes close

Looks like your man has eyes on it too :slightly_smiling_face:.

So whats the return on these like. I ride for espresso when eating out, but can’t engage at home as I feel to “fuzzy” after just the one :face_with_peeking_eye:
