Sonically Genius Records…

I’m not quite sure what you mean, do you mean that some bars are only 2 beats long and therefore it doesn’t mix well with other records? Sorry if that’s a daft question but my music theory knowledge only goes so far!

Exactly! It does it at 3:00, 3:21 and 3:41 link not embedding for some reason https://youtu.be/zpzdgmqIHOQ

Thanks for clarifying, now I see. I’m not a DJ just a punter so I have no idea about mixing records

Some great choices already. I like the sound of a lot of Adrian Sherwood productions but this in particular sounds incredible on a good system:

Not a professional, but I always think that the Blue Nile listen well.

Yello’s records always sound good to me, The Race for example. Big soundstage and dynamics:

I find this highly annoying on tracks. Is it just sloppy production?

Not something I play much any more, but this used to blow me away, as did most Buttrich productions.

I was once present in a club when they were installing a new Funktion One system and their sound techs used to play this to test it out and tune it up. They said it’s a sonically perfect track. They were not wrong. Oof

OK Computer. I havent listened to this for years is kind of depressing really but great production I think it was all recorded using analogue valve gear and you can tell.

Joy Division - Heart and Soul - this was maybe the first record that made me pay attention to production - those drums!

I read an interview with Martin Hannett once where he was asked about his favourite album production & he said it was ‘L.A. Woman’.
I’m no expert but always thought this sounded great.

I dunno. I think sometimes it’s good to do the two bar thing as it throws the ear and makes you wake up to the track again as it’s an off thing to do. You ears tune out sometimes if it’s expected.

always enjoyed this being played at volume, on a good rig, must have been immense at the garage.

On a modern producing tip, Nurse With Wound is very interesting sonically.

I always thought Wellers Stanley Road LP was amazingly produced. Some great delays and use of space in the mix. The drums sound really prominent but in a good way.
