Small world - I left in ‘96 and came to Bristol, Mum and Dad stayed in Marple Bridge till 2016, they are down here now which is a shame as I’m sorely tempted to come back to go to Up In Arms at the Norfolk - did a fair amount of under age drinking there as a lad, was highly amused when I saw they’d started a decent party there - would love to go to one some time - have you been?

Not yet as ive been away working a lot this year, but delighted to see its on there.

Yeah couldn’t believe it when I saw Miles Holoway was playing at my old under age boozer with the likes of Rune Lindback!

I went to that party, it was great!

The Norfolk Arms is a really good pub now with a decent selection of beers. The space upstairs is, obviously, perfect for a party too.

It’s ironic cos as a teenager I was always walking past the Norfolk on the way to the train station to go into town to go to Sankeys or The Ardri or Roadhouse or whatever - never thought the party would come to the bridge!

There are some excellent restaurants in Marple Bridge too now, Fold Bistro especially.

Ha mad how a place can change - when I left the best eatery was the Deep Sea Chippy

The Chip Shop is now run by a nice chap who used to work in fashion and makes award winning pies.
And Marple has a great Cambodian and good Japanese and as I’ve been telling my kids for the last 15 years, ‘it’s the new Brooklyn’.

I must come back for a visit - it wasn’t even the new Marple last time I was there - wools be great to see how it’s developed.
Is the the Regent Cinema still going?

yes, and just been redecorated outside, and the nice chap who sells you a ticket then pops into the booth next door to sell you some revels and a kia-ora. And theres an intermission with ice cream vendors

Wow. Looks great - and strangely very much unchanged - though in my memory it was much bigger! I remember seeing Ghost here when it first came out in what could legitimately be called my first proper date…

Not sure if Marple has changed or cinema going, but most of the audience now look like theyre heading towards their Last Date.

I took this on Sheffield today

How did we get from I only drink Purdeys when out to real ale + real house

Stockport is so over, it’s all about Marple now.

I’ll be sure to inform the wonky old lads who sit on the benches outside Greggs of this crucial new bit of info. in the morning - well, the mid morning. None of them are particularly early risers.

In the week that Mike “Concrete” Graham got sacked by Talk TV as a result of obviously vile stuff being put on his Facebook by hackers (yeah, right), I’m reminded of my encounter with him. Accompanied the wife to a book launch at the News Building near London Bridge (the home of Murdoch’s media empire)a few years ago, I went to use the gents and saw a bloke exiting a cubicle and leaving the toilets without washing his hands. It was the aforementioned Mr Graham.

At least he can concentrate on his Concrete farm now.

Extremely small claim.

My Mrs used to sell scratch cards to Alex Higgins- £50’s worth at a time(!)- money he’d got pool/ snooker hustling in pubs around Salford/ Manc towards back end of his life.

It might have been some of my money! I played pool (fiver a game) with Higgins in the late 80s in a pub in Didsbury when I visited a mate at uni in Manchester.

We headed out later on our way to the Hacienda but only ever reached as far as a blues in Hulme all the poorer financially.
