Sandy Denny is played alot in our house… Mrs is a huge fan… Over 50 years old and still sounds fresh

Great choices - perhaps its a heresy, but I prefer the Nina Simone cover - it’s one of those special moments of live performance - I try not to listen to it too often to avoid spoiling the magic. That opening monologue…that ghostly piano solo…
John Malkovich even used it in his film “The Dancer Upstairs”.
Glad to see the thread has resonated with a lot of you
It’s getting into Gigi Masin season for me, he gets that melancholic vibe so well. Saw him in a freezing cold warehouse in Salford last year. The music deserved nicer surroundings than an old car garage but I think he’s just happy to be getting paid to tour with his music.
Andi Hanley did a great edit of this, not on YouTube unfortunately. Has soundtracked many a late night when it’s winding down for me this one. Love the Planes, Trains & Automobiles scene with it in too.

Few mentions of John Martyn already (Gigi Masin’s favourite artist), there’s room for plenty more in my view!
Never knew Nina covered this this thread is going to be a winter warmer for sure
4 Ambient Tales is, as you say, a beautiful EP.
Playlist is at 7 hours now
Brilliant
(But just this version from More More More, the others are horrible)
Not a slow jam, but pitch it down, take the bass down a notch and just bawl your eyes out after a break up like it’s 1999 again…
That version of Love Song is great, can’t even find it on Discogs.
This always kills me. It’s the intensity.

I was trying to get tracks from Roman for a while… I wish I still had all the tapes (it was the time when you’d post tapes)… Anyway, he’d send really really tracky things at first. Like just drum machines pretty much. And on the phone I’d be like ‘there’s not much going on, have you got anything with some melody or you singing?’ but he had this theory that music was based on colour and you had to start off releasing the grey music before you could get to the colourful yellow music… I liked him.
He made some great stuff, always interesting.
would have loved to have seen what colours he’d be painting in now, RIP to a beautiful soul
This one always gets me. Bittersweet love song. Awkwardly translated: “If you’re that uncomfortable in your skin, come into mine.”
I was listening to it last night, it’s fantastic!
