add 1.60 to the postage😀
That mostly applies to the classic album reissue from HMV gang.
I feel like theres a lot of over thinking and romanticising around vinyl. Ultimately, people buy music they like. Thats pretty much all you need to know. All the rest of it about “the vinyl community” , "treasuring the physical product " and sleeve notes and all that is all a bit overstated imo.
Analogue Productions seem to be in some of Competition Spiral with Mobile Fidelity for this kind of authenticity at a price.

Is there anything particular about the mastering or pressing quality other than 180g vinyl?
There was some chat on a forum ( I think it was we are the music makers) regarding Global Communications re-releases by Music on Vinyl a few years ago. Whilst I respect the conversation about whether GC got paid for the reissues, the rest of the chat was about GC were working on their own box set remastered from the original masters, so wait for that, it will sound better.
Outcome - MOV releases sound mint, GC’s own release sounds really dull and lifeless.
It was indeed about pointless reissues primarily, but the ‘collectors as atm’s’ bit could equally apply to the idiots flogging g+ copies of No Parlez at £50 a time.
As far as vinyl being romanticised, well yeah it’s a romantic medium, like books… The smell, the liner notes etc is all part of that- I love it but it’s a much more expensive hobby than it used to be generally
And now my niece has picked up the habit… and her birthday is coming up. She has requested The Cure’s Disintegration LP (nice choice for a 14 yr old, I reckon).
I’m used to ordering for delivery where I live (Portugal) so I’m a bit out of touch with options for delivery in the UK. I know ordering off Discogs can lead to issues if you ask the seller to send direct to someone else, so I think I’d rather order from a UK-based operation with a good reputation, especially when it comes to the condition of the record.
So, any tips for somewhere I can order online for UK delivery, a NM decent pressing of this kind of thing - I’m trying to avoid Amazon if at all possible.
Cheers
Juno have double vinyl universal music reissue 180g. they’re extremely reliable postage wise.
Thank you - I had completely forgotten about Juno!
I had also forgotten that you don’t “have to” have an original pressing, especially if you’re fourteen years old…
I wish I could forget about Juno. Would save me a lot of money.
Love Vinyl have it for £59.95
Guesing there will be a non hand sprayed sleeve version for ‘usual’ pricing
same what they did with Yokai.
So today ECM records basically announced they are doing a box set featuring the complete recordings of basically my 3 favorite jazz musicians playing together for pretty much the only time. They have said it is limited, and so far the pre order site (german Amazon) won’t deliver anywhere else but Germany, so far.
I need this so bad I’m triangulating a bunch of different possible ways to get it at pre-order, which is both annoying and exciting - which is annoying.
A question to those in the UK, is it really a pain to send a package from Germany to the UK these days? Will there have to be VAT and a lot of pain in the ass going to the post office and all that? I might be able to get someone to receive it in Germany and send it to a friend in the UK who is coming to my wedding in october (record ships end of august), but I don’t want to give him any extra post office grief.

It depends on how the sender declares the item.
Whoever is responsible for getting it to the UK from Germany, will be responsible for taking the goods through customs. There may be VAT and customs duties to pay, although you’re usually covered if the goods are worth less than £135.
This provides more detail.
I’ve had to pay tax twice on vinyl going from the UK to France. The sender paid and then I had to pay again when I went to pick up the records at the post office. The customs guys appear to just make up the rules as they want. It means that I don’t really buy records from the UK anymore.
Bazza in the chazza under lock and key for £20!
This is the mean streets of Henley-on-Thames after all…
That one is the ultra rare limited edition RSD Gold vinyl version tho, with remixes of Copacabana and Mandy by Underground Resistance and DJ Sprinkles respectively, personally endorsed by Bazza as well.
Dammit. I didn’t think to check!
I did get the old lady to open the cabinet to look at the others and have no recollection what they were (similar chud I’m sure)
