Yes! Absolutely rinsed that in our Soap Bar ravaged shared party house in 1990

Not his own work or dubs, but this is a mighty selection of top Island dubs.

I never caught him live - and must admit that I’ve never fully connected with what CDs and vinyl I have of his. Why I’m not sure. Perhaps his major strength was in the soundsystem. Certainly my speakers couldn’t compare. By all reports, his was among the most powerful of sounds and he was a significant cultural presence. And still working!

He has an appearance as himself in Babylon. Fortunately, our library has it on DVD and it’s on its way. I’m looking for the 2005 CD reissue of the soundtrack,

but it’s fetching somewhat silly money by the time shipping is added on. Any leads or charitable donations will be gratefully received.

I liked Benny Ill’s Rest in Power tweet as seen here:

And there’s a great photo from Mad Professor further down the same page of him and Shaka with Lee Scratch Perry whose face is almost entirely obscured by his sparking up. Must have been before he apparently gave up the herb. Another RIP pioneer.
