never mind Madness, this is the sound of London 1981.
Again sure this aināt new but stillā¦oof
Sunday afternoon Southport vibes on this one.
hope this fits the brief but iām totally obsessed with this oneā¦
Total Contrast - Sunshine (Original 12")
Total Contrast - Sunshine (Instrumental mix)
thereās at least three different versions of that tune out there: the album version which is a lot smoother (but still great) and where I first heard it; the utterly gorgeous and highly balearic ābasement tapesā instrumental version that got included on a couple of their 12ās, which has added spanish guitar and soprano sax; and the original 12" on their own Total Contrast label - deeper, funkier and just a little bit rawer. so good!
So good! Found my copy on the basement 12ā double pack in the Ā£2 bin at vinyl underground
Been hammering this a bit recentlyā¦
1.8k to 2.k now WTF
I sold my copy for 2.5 to help pay for my sound system. Really stupid money, but then most modern/northern soul is.
I like it when threads like this get resurrected.
Iāve never been too sure about the rules for this genre, but if weāre talking about slower soulful things that make me sway, then Iāve got a couple.
Damn straight.
Qendresa also used this nicely
This is an absolutely killer record which Iād completely forgotten about. Super cheap to find the LP (12ā is expensive). I remember playing this at Low Life at The Fortress upstairs to about 20 people. Good times!
