Hey All. I’m researching the best way to mail out a record in the post… It would be super helpful if you can you let me know what you think is the best way to receive vinyl in the post. Thanks in advance!
Take the record out of the outer sleeve if possible.
At least one cardboard inner.
Fragile stamp or sticker
Tape the opening.
Don’t use Evri.
These are the best for mailers and cardboard inners
Why take the record out of the sleeve? I know common practice but never understood the reason. Thanks
Stops the record from splitting the outer sleeve seams in transit. Happens so much with new records i get sent.
Especially if there is no cardboard inner too.
I got the ALFOS comp recently and the record was nearly coming out the top seam. Piccadilly were very good though with sorting a replacement.
Makes sense, thanks!
also offering a “pickup at packststion” option, I know hermes and dhl offer this. this lessens chance of the postie folding it to get into the letter box, or just leaving it on top/beside letter box.
sounds logical, and common sense, but I’ve had records just left on the step outside our building, or just inside entrance foyer.DPD both times
I might be lucky but I’ve generally found records arrive in decent nick whoever the courier is. I couldn’t say the same for the reliability of the seller’s grading!
Nailed it. Removal from sleeve is key, especially if it’s a gatefold. Same thing happened to my Alfos from Piccadilly.
if you’re in the states, and mailing to someone in the states - use “media mail”
they say it’s a slower, cheaper rate for books, records, a big stack of magazines, betamax tapes, etc. but i’ve found it’s no slower than a mailed letter. sending a record from and to anyone in the US should be less than $6.
Stick it in a brown paper bag just make sure to mark it fragile. Makes all the difference
Longest it takes is a week. Great value for money.
