I am intrigued here. What is the story behind them? From what I can tell it was an 80’s thing.
The one that I really like is the Aretha Franklin one.

From what I was able to find when I looked these up a while ago it is just a blend of “percussion + acapella” and there were various remixers who did them…Steve Thompson and Michael Barbiero for example. I was never able to find one that hits like the Aretha one…

The Aretha Perc features on one of the Mark Seven Salute mixes to great effect, bought my copy after hearing it there, had never heard the original before that either

such a great mix series all round but the sleaze sections of 1 & 2 are defo my favs, so many great tunes i heard for the first time:
Come back Home, love will find a way, melodie’s of love, kiss you all over…. I could go on…

One and three are my faves I think. All three sleaze mixes are top notch though. Copped a few tunes from them too. The Quick, Pure Energy, Eden, and Booker T & Rita Coolidge.

No.3 gets so emotional and deep; it’s all rather poignant and nostalgic. Voyage - “Souvenirs”, Hemyl - “Keep on Rockin”, The Whispers “Will You Be Mine”…the transition from Herb Alpert to Lou Rawls kills me every time…

I had never head the mixes before and played them back to back on my early morning drive/swim to New York. CD 3 proper hits you in the feels. Amazing how many of those records are almost standards for all of us now.
