Oxford digging

Record shops in the area? Preferably something other than the genric ones that come up on google, they look dry. Dusty junk shops etc prefered, traveling from Bedfordshire so anywhere on the way or back.

Thanks

Going to Oxford next week to see inside number 9 in theatre so thought I’d revive this thread. Anyone got any tips for good bars that play nice music, food, record stores, just any good stuff we should check out basically? Cheers

I can’t remember what the trip to Oxford was for and can’t remember if it happened…I will review records found around that time in 2024.

Seems like Oxford needs a supporter on here regardless.

I stumbled on this place when I was last there. Found a clutch of Steely Dan LPs.

Flow Records is also worth checking out.

Oxford is my hometown but haven’t been back in many years. Gone are the good old days of Manic Hedgehog and Massive Records. Oh, and Rodigan’s record stall (before my time)

Same! Massive was ace. Formative digging as well as navigating moody record store staff,

Cheers for the help all will check them out! @howler Any good bars you’re aware of I should hit up?

Sorry mate, I haven’t been out in Oxford for probably more than 15 years, so haven’t the foggiest. Even growing up there, and condering it had all the Oxford Uni colleges olus Oxford Poly/Brookes, it never had the vatiety of nights/scenes other uni towns such as Bristol or Brighton had. I spent most of my formative years getting the Oxford Tube to London or travelling to the aforementioned for a decent night out!

I lived in Oxford for a year about 30 years ago. Every time i got paid it was straight to Massive Records in my lunch break. Very fond memories of that shop - the hand written descriptions on the sleeves were so passionately written. I remember reading the description on the Red Planet no. 6 double pack and practcally fell in love before i even listened to it. Good times

What happened to her? Shop closed in mid-00’s?

I think she now runs a Dynamic Distribution over Cheltenham way.
