That really is nice!
How new is Nu disco?
Old enough for a revival to be in the post….
Coming back to this again this morning, so epic Mungolian Jetset vs Unni Wilhelmsen: Revolving Door - YouTube
Mungolian Jetset were soooooo so good. Their second album “We Gave it All Away, and Now We’re Taking it Back” is one of the greatest nu-disco records ever, I encourage everyone to go back and give it another spin.
It was really important for me transitioning from art rock/indie rock over to dance. I really think they were on to something with their attempted fusion of zany, ‘anything goes’ progressive rock-type vibes and ballsy disco experimentation…super ambitious and hasn’t really been attempted in the same way since. Hilarious but also quite serious in an almost Zappa-esque balance.
People have been posting their tracks on this forum, like their insane Pizzy Elliot remix. Here are a few others I come back to:
Dunno what these dudes are up to now. I think one of them collabs with Sex Judas.
Flicking through my library I came across street Corner Symphony. Really enjoyed this at the time. First came across them on the excellent Open records comp “An open minded collection” which could also go into the Comp’d thread as one that still stands up.
Told Glen Gunner who made this about the forum, should get him on-board soon
I love their Moon Jocks N Prog Rocks track, a favourite from 2010.
Then in 2016 they dropped a 12" that I played out hella lot, A City So Convenient, if I was DJing tomorrow Id probably pack this 12".
Massive fan of the label Disco Devil and probably one of the first labels that got me into dance music tbh. Let’s revive this thread ha…
ny story
proto chugger ?!
Tell you what, I know this was played to death, and I know it’s Koze, but it is a goddamn banger of a track and I will keep it in my case for a very long time:
Can we revive this thread?
I just had a listen to the beatport and traxsource nu disco charts and i am not willing to believe that is a true reflection of the genre nowadays.
