Walked by it in April on a Saturday and it was closed. Don’t think it is officially closed though and google is telling me it is open today.
I haven’t been since before the pandemic so it may have changed but the stories were true. Nothing was organized so you would need 2/3 hours minimum to dig through just a small section. 12 inches a buck, albums 2 bucks. Easy to hear how Metro Area got their sound from digging here. Lots of dance 12 inches from 1980 to 1985 - even if you don’t recognize the artist, label or producer, if there was a dub version on the b-side you were near guaranteed a banger. And again it’s just a buck! Must get back there.
Really helpful Ronand, some great tips thanks. Shame Killer Mike is 21+ as my kids would have loved that. Will go for Makaya McCraven as can get table seats for that - saw him the Festival Hall in London a few months ago and loved it so will be cool to see him in a club setting
Summer stage in Central Park could be worth a look if you have kids. I don’t recognize the bands/djs playing while you’re in town but the price is right (i.e. free) and could be cool just to hang in CP and hear some music.
I believe this is an all ages show, every Sat afternoon in famous jazz club in West Village and free also.
Also recommend Miss Lilly’s restaurant in East Village, very cool Jamaican restaurant with great food and unsurprisingly great music. Cool place to hang (inside or outside) with your kids and people watch.
