We have just booked for New Orleans in late May. Staying four nights. Never been, always was fascinated by this most unique of places in the US or anywhere–music, food, culture, history. Anyone been or have any recs?
haven’t been in a decade, but i did find it to be a super fun town.
we stayed within walking distance of the st. roch market and ate there a few times. a lovely neighborhood and lots of good food to choose from. elizabeth’s as well.
i didn’t actually do any record shopping, had a lil’ tot with me and was limited on time and luggage space. sames with clubs, didn’t do any of that either. did go to humidity skate shop, that place was cool.
also, got caught in one of those epic downpours that you only get in the south, all hot rain and steamy stink. my kid loved it.
edit: you know what else is cool and kind of weird? the lake pontchartrain bridge. mandeville isn’t anything special, but there’s a deli over there that was cool, and there’s something really disorienting about being on a bridge so long that you can’t see land in front or behind you.
Was there for a wedding last year. Hot and humid but otherwise a great time. Went to Snug Harbor where they had a few acts from Tulane music school. One vibraphone combo did Aphex Twin covers. Also enjoyed Jewel of the South for top drinks and eats. Same with Atchafalaya. Didn’t make it to Backstreet Cultural Museum but looks lovely, with lots of history and artifacts related to Mardi Gras and Jazz funerals.
Is Eddie 3 Ways attic still accessable?
Actually, that’s supposed to be in a really dodgy area, so not advisiable even if it’s still going.
