I haven’t listened to Luke for 20 years, since the Unabombers had a show on local radio in Manchester back in the day, back then he came across as very opinionated & a bit of a gobshite know it all.
Don’t know what he’s like now but maybe he’s changed like most of us do over time.
Maybe you guys should have a dedicated thread for this guy, so you can keep up to date with his news, and your opinions on him.
I remember hearing this track may be once or twice a year at Sir Henrys in Cork back in the 90s,never heard it played anywhere before and asking people what it was. Nobody new the name. People saying its a very rare record and this was the only copy in Ireland that’s why the djs kept it secret. I was with the djs one night when they played for us and asked them, they said they knew nothing about the track but loved hearing all the mystery about it and when they would play it the reaction was mind blowing. They had no problem telling me the name of it… Lol
You need a hug maybe?
From you? Yeah why not! I won’t turn down a hug tbh.
We call them “Bosies” where i am from.
If you’re referring to my post, I am just glibly pointing out that this Luke Una chap is mentioned almost daily on this site. I rarely hear about him outside of here, unless he has a compilation out or something.
I don’t really understand why he divides opinion so much, what is your opinion of him? Maybe we do need this thread about him so we can finally get to the bottom of what is going on here.
I think a lot of the way things gain or lose popularity these days is kind of memetic- a person or song stands for an ideal that someone espouses or dislikes. To me luka una is more of an idea/ideal- he’s from —, he plays —, he does — on instagram, it took him —years to get popular than someone who has ever played a single set I’ve found unique or compelling or worth playing twice.
Also fully understand that the same criticism could be leveled at almost any dj which is the nature of opinions and totally fair. Just like you said he’s a frequent topic of TP conversation and someone I never really knew of before now and so I checked him out and was profoundly not impressed.
You’re one ahead of me then, i have yet to really check him out, but i just feel like he is still a bloke in the same scene as us, and maybe not entirely worthy of the level of scorn being poured on him in here.
He might want to be a member of this community, imagine finding this place and seeing people saying similar stuff about you.
Call me a pussy, but it just seems a bit unnecessary.
…and maybe even a tad… snobby…
He’s not metioned daily & many posts on here are positive.
He seems to be doing well, i doubt he gives a shit that a few members on here don’t rate him.
Just admit you are obsessed with him and begin the healing process.
If obsessed is only thinking about him when i see him mentioned then you got me bang to rights.
I love sharing a tune ive heard. Even if i know my mates won’t like it
Take him away boys!
We’ll stop off to pick you up on the way seeing as you are obessed enough to be counting mentions of his name on here
What are we doing here?
Is this just going to go on forever like this?
This thread is a bit triggery for me. I’ve personally made some huge life sacrifices in the name of the party. I think the thread might get closed and some constructive paragraphs could be commissioned from this kind of banter in the future. Been some good comments so far.
Sorry, but as someone who knows Luke, whilst he may not be everyone’s cup of tea, he is 100% passionate about what he does, works his nuts off and is one of the funniest blokes I’ve met. Had some very lost weekends with him over the years and there’s never a dull moment.
He and Justin kept Mancunia firmly on the map with the Leccy Chair and even now, with the restaurants (Volta and Electriks), plus Freight Island, they are still grafting hard.
I’m genuinely pleased and happy for his success and even though some of the Insta vids can be a bit repetitive, some are laugh out loud funny and have certainly made the lockdowns a little brighter.
If he’s not your thing, just move on.
If anyone has read anything around his new compilation, he suffers from ADHD, and music has been his salvation.
Rant over.
Had some great nights at Electric Chair when I lived in Manc. Don’t know him, or ever watch his videos as that’s not my scene, but he has good taste in music, which is all that ultimately matters for me.
This EC promo tape still gets a lot of play 16 years later.
Yeah, this.
There are far, FAR worse culprits in our ‘scene’ to cop negativity. He’s a gobshite, 100% for sure, and his shtick can get a bit tiresome. But imo the world would be a little less colorful without him. I think you have to be from a certain place, geographically and historically to be on board with his vibe. And no, I dont know him personally.
Dont really understand why he’s been named in this thread, and actually this thread confuses me. I dont understand what point is trying to be made.
