I have zero experience with production gear, but I just bought a Novation Circuit Tracks to have a little dabble on. Has anyone used one or hav any tips or links to decent tutorials?
Loopop does very in depth reviews
Ricky Tinez. He’s a good sub anyway, but here’s a Circuit Tracks workout
Maybe more of an intro to things
Thanks so much J_C. ![]()
This has just been announced by ALM. I’ve had a version of this for a bit. Allows you to clock your synths with a cdj. It’s a ton of fun.
I have been thinking about such a device for a long time, it would be nice to send both clock and key so that you can set master key and play in harmony, perfect for hybrid DJ-live setups.
That Ricky Tinez jam is a vibe, I especially like the beginning when it’s simple, he’s over done it to showcase the features. I own the DrumBrute, but I don’t use it, need to plug in my hardware and start using it in my setup. I also want to do a live improv for the forum.
Appreciate the edit tips people have posted, always wanted to do it but found it tedious / couldn’t find any good resources to learn it. Keep 'em coming please!
Ableton just got it’s own stem splitter like Logic has had for a while, it’s endless fun just putting your favourite tracks in to see how they’ve done it.
I didnt know about the new stem separation feature in Live. Just had a look, that’s absolutely wild. Ive dreamed of something like that for years
Brace for an avalanche of shit pop remixes though
stem splitting is also supported in the new cubase. like you, i’ve had fun seeing what it will and will not separate. it seems somewhat confused by cocteau twins records.
You’re revealing a lot about yourself here tbh
it opens up a lot of opportunities. Let the creativity flow.
Cocteau Twins must be a stem splitter’s final boss battle.
I’m going to give that a try actually, see if anything interesting comes out of it. My theory is that in 20 years the next generation will be using plugins that recreate the artefacts and glitches from this process, to get that authentic 20’s early AI sound.
Things were much simpler and more innocent back then, the pills were stronger too.
put this on a t-shirt and make a bazillion dollars!
I don’t normally check this thread but am in need of some hive mind help. My son has his 13th birthday coming up, he’s very musical, plays the keyboard and has perfect pitch. I would like to buy him a proper bit of kit that he could start exploring creating music on.
I’m not quite sure what I need but ideally something standalone, perhaps with a keyboard and the ability to sample, I’m thinking he could raid my records for samples. I’d be willing to spend around £300 or a bit more if its worth it, I’m happy to go for something second hand. Thanks in advance!
I’d probably go with something from one of the main players so he learns a common ecosystem, so Akai MPC might fit the bill, If he has a midi capable keyboard it could control pretty much any sampler.
Or you could go for something like the original Digitakt which you can get pretty ‘cheap’ as it’s been upgraded.
Or maybe one of the Teenage Engineering samplers.
Think that’s the only thing in budget that would be new.
Thanks I’ll have a look, I’m really a novice at this stuff, I think I’ll get him a midi keyboard too
Or if he has a computer maybe Ableton?
I’m trying to keep him away from screens so a second hand mpc or the teenage engineering thing look good
To sell or not to sell?! ![]()
