Some good answers here thanks, I’m gonna give this a go
I’ve been trying to work out what FX are on the guitar from 1:18 and throughout. Is it phase/flange? Envelope filtered with rotary/chorus/ensemble? Doing me head in
Recommend this book. I’ve gone from not finishing tracks to not even starting any which I think maybe the key?
I’ll have a go. There’s not a lot of movement, and it sounds out of phase. But not a phaser. Could be chorus/flanger with zero/low feedback, tight delay time (manual), low depth and fast rate. Or possibly zero depth and delay time / manual used as a static filter. Plus overdrive. Great sound!
Wicked thanks. Yeah love that track!
The secret to finishing all of the tracks is to take lots of drugs, the final 10% is the hardest part for me, as it is for many. Maybe more drugs ? Idk
Have you gleaned anything useful from this book ?
It’s pretty good. Lots of mindset tips like momentum beats perfection etc etc. I’ll have a think and try and summise the best bits.
sounds like a rotary effect to me, with distortion added and gated heavily to get the tails off?
Could be! I was thinking fairly heavy limiting/compression but it could be gating
Sounds like a harmonizer with pitch shifting to my ears-eg Eventide
Along similar lines you could achieve this effect I reckon with Soundtoys Crystallizer with the resonance turned up to make the fundamental pop
Edit: listening again I reckon harmoniser followed with a filter/ eq rolling off a lot of the high end crunch
Nice.
I should buy the Eventide H9
The vst version is pretty good
Whoa!
Some unit and definitely too big for my cabin
Anyone here using Logic for production? My son has started using it, learning how to make drum & bass tunes.
Any tips for good You Tube etc Logic tutorials ?
Or any general helpful insights about using Logic?
Cheers. Much appreciated.
Never used Logic, but I found Reddit really helpful when I was learning Live. I’m sure there will be a dedicated Logic community. 9 times out of 10 there will be an answer for whatever problem you’re having. Plus lots of knowledgeable people and tutorials and other resources.
I found it very helpful to think of it in the same way as any musical instrument and once I had the basics down, I spent time on copying a track I love (choose something fairly simple to start with) concentrating on each part (drums/bass/instruments/fx/etc) individually. Breaking down each sound and reproducing it is great for learning synthesis, programming and composition.
Thank you very much.
My advice would be to search YouTube for a Logic tutorial in the chosen genre, there should be plenty.
I did that when I was refreshing my memory with Logic so I could take advantage of the (arguably better than Live) bus/mix routing for sending stems to my mixer for dubbing and found some really good Dub tutorials.
Logic I find personally is maybe better for mixing and working with stems but Live is better for sound design/creative sessions. But I guess it’s like anything, muscle memory.
This one is recent so should be relevant to latest Logic version
Ohm Unit has a really nice sample pack on Bandcamp with lovely breaks to sample, chop up, imitate. Run them through a bit crusher, reduce the bit rate, and get the classic early ‘90’s sound.
Totally - he has quite a few packs to go through and each one is choc-a-bloc with filthy goodies.
