Music Production Tips/Tricks/Bits of Kit

Picked up some UA plugins. Looking out for any Adam Audio deals.

Sold out everywhere already.

Got a Bitbox MkII and Akemies Taiko in the sales. Planning on triggering the Bitbox via midi and hoping latency won’t be an issue, otherwise I’ll be gutted and instantly regret not spending a little more on an Assimil8tor instead.

Sprung for a new guitar, a Squire 50’s Classic Vibe Telecaster. Plan to replace the bridge for one with compensated brass saddles and the pickups. Other than that it’s a great guitar, the neck is almost as good as the USA Tele Deluxe I sold a few years ago (and have regretted ever since!). Amazing for £258!

I also picked up Sonarworks SoundID room correction plugin for a great price too.

That SG is beautiful!

Thanks. '63 SG Standard. Original case with receipt and catalogue! (bought for £157 in Manchester '64).

I swapped it for a '69 Marshall Bluesbreaker amp I bought at a house sale for £100 back in 2002. I think that amp would be close on for £5K in today’s market, particularly overseas :grimacing:

Nice! I’m hoping ALM will port over more of their sound generators to VCV Rack. I picked the Pams Pro module last week and it’s been brilliant for rock solid use of VCV patches in Bitwig and Ableton. Mainly using VCV for midi sequencing in the DAW now.

Disappointed not actual cross fader (I get it, it’s too small) but then doubly disappointed to learn it doesn’t have a centre detent :disappointed:

Looking forward to this…

I bought some about a year ago…

New to the forum, but finding different pockets of interest.

I saw the comments about guitar/bass above.
I’ve been trying the 30 day trial of Ujam Dandy Bassist VST recently and pleasantly surprised with it.
A bit strange to get used to, but quite flexible, and can add slides etc that sound legit by using additional octaves of midi to enter data. See here: youtube quick demo

Also a hello from my studio - I’m sure I’ll end up discussing gear on here too, so thought would share a. photo from there as new. (photo from last year, it has some sound insulation now finally!)

The bits of gear that are most unique/interesting are prob both the drum machines.

MFB Tanzmaus - wonderful little box, very odd to get used to with multiple buttons even to press play - but great sounds, and step sequencer/polyhryhtm/sampler all good. Unique and nice crunchy kicks. Anyone got any MFB stuff? Keen to try the Tanzbar someday

Roland 626 with the HKA Mod - makes an alright drum machine lots better, it already has individual outs, so if you don’t mind the lack of volume sliders it’s very good. It requires some soldering, but not too fiddly. There’s also kits for various other drum machines.
The expansion board’s sounds are spread across four banks, selectable with two toggle switches. Bank 1 covers LinnDrum and LM-1 sounds, Bank 2 covers DMX and TR-707 sounds, Bank 3 covers TR-909 and TR-808 sounds, and Bank 4 is the original factory sounds.

I’ve got the MFB522. I’ve been selling off a fair amount of unused gear to feed the ravenous Eurocrack habit, but not that! :ok_hand::boom:

Anyone got any go to bass/guitar plugins for recording? I used to have some NI stuff but it was all out of date and I don’t think it followed me in a change of Mac :grimacing:

So many bits of software lost over the years to that. Bloody annoying. Had one thing used all the time that merged audio samples, used to get some mad effects unlike layering samples, if only I could remember what it was called. :man_shrugging:

I really like Boz Digital stuff. Free Piano not bad!

DiscoDSP recently released an upgraded version of their fantastic free OB-Xa plugin called OB-Xd. I really recommend picking it up as it is phenomenal.

Excellent! It’s a fantastic plug in for free. Love the Dexed free one too.

What’s the best software for a beginner to make some tunes with? Asking for my 16yr old. He’s got a Mac and wants to make some drum & bass / breakbeat stuff.

Thank you!

Does the Mac have Garageband? That might be a good place to start as an entry level DAW. Alternatively I would get the Lite version of Ableton Live
